First off I am a male 120 pounds and 5' 9". I would rate myself as an intermediate to low advanced skier and I would like to get skis I can race on. I have tried out many of my friends skis and have one major problem with them, they are either too soft at the high speeds or they are too stiff and I can't bend them enough in the turn. What have you tried that was too soft/ too stiff?
What type of racing are you planning on doing, high school?
Will you be coached or will this be 'figure it out as you go'?
For SL you will want a real SL ski shape. The RX8 is a very good suggestion, I'd add Head Supershape, Volkl's consumer SL ski, Atomic had the 'LT' race skis that might be good, Blizzard's consumer race stuff is really good and Rossi or Dynastar are always great choices for lighter athletes.
