Difference between Marker iPT 11 TC and iPT 12 Piston, Volkl AC 30 Skis

Should I worry about the difference between a pair of Marker iPT 11 TC and Marker iPT 12 Piston bindings? I'm looking for a pair of Volkl AC30 skis, and find that some come with the 11 TC and others with the 12 Piston binding set.

So, does one offer something the other does not?

Hefe

The heel is VERY different, the 11 is a simple two piece 'sport' model, the 12 is a three piece high performance heel.

One is an ejector seat, the other is a reasonably sophisticated combination of safety and performance.

The piston part of the toe on the iPT 12 is very good for vibration dampining for better edge hold on very firm (icy) snow as well. The 12 is a much better system.

I bought the 2009 AC30 with the IPT12.  I will say that this ski does great on the groomers - especially on hardpack/ice.  I have had no problems with chatter on ice - put the ski on edge and it rides like a rail.   Also the skis are very stable at high speed.  This is a great groomer ski and an occasional off piste ski (90/10).  However don't ride the tails or you will pay for it dearly - these skis will launch you.  However keep forward on the tips and they will ski through anything.

I have seen a number of stores offer the IPT11 - probably not a big deal.  However if you are an east coast guy and run into skating rinks from time to time, I think the IPT12 will be worth the extra 60 bucks (IMHO).

Cheers,
