freaq rollin'...west - Page 2

Sunday is shaping up to be quite the event!  I'm mosdef looking forward to it.

liv4ski, thanks for the tips.  I'll report back.  Wish you could make it out too.

So.... anyone skiing tomorrow?  I'll be at Copper unless someone's got a better idea.

I've been reading this thread and basking in the frequency of stoke.  I think bumpfreaq took more week long trips than I took total ski days this season, as it should be I suppose.  This joint ROCKS!  Post more photos pleeeezzzzz

Great to ski with you again yesteday BF! Have a great time and we'll see you next year at Holimont!

WOW, you really roll around. I am very jealous. You MUST ski Abasin. and be sure to ski the chutes skier left of Pallavicini (?). West Alley is a killer chute (waterfall is local name), and the last pitch is killer, (literally). ABasin is so much fun to ski. I used to ski it "sponsored", just a matter of how good your bud was and you were on the lift sponsored for the day....

As it should be?  No, I don't think so.  I'm just kinda lucky at the moment.  Pics from me will have to wait until next week.  My internet connection is painfully slow and intermitant, but I'm very thankful for what I've got.

John, it was too cool to ski with you out here.  I'm already looking forward to Holimont.  Wish I could have been there this year.

Yeah boom, I'm mosdef puttin' some miles on the Scooby.  ABasin is one of my faves, the alleys are a good tip.  Any idea how I can hook up with a bud that will make me sponsored by association?  That sounds pretty happenin'!

I'll be at WP on Friday.   I'll be at Das Boat from 24th-29th.  If you make it there, you might see a number of snowboarders wearing WP uniforms roaming the joint.

Posted this up on my own thread, but figure that there are a few here making Sunday plans based on this thread too. Any feedback regarding making photos will be most sincerely welcome.

Liv4ski, thanks from me too for the advice about BC.

I'll be there in similar sunblock and apparel DonDenver. Only got one jacket, (the red one I've been rockin' all season,) so you'll recognize me easily. Never met you Bumpfreaq, but only one man could possibly have your distinctive helmet. Should be as easy to find you as a frog in a punchbowl.

Figure that I'll take the free shuttle and I believe that it will drop me near the base of the Centennial Lift. Don't know the bus schedule, but I'll get there as early as possible, and trust that I'll be at the base before the lifts open. If I get hung up, I'll give you a call DonDenver and Bumpfreaq. Otherwise, see y'all early on Sunday.

I'm debating wether or not to bring along a "real" camera instead of a point & shoot. Any prospective "action" models interested in feats of lunatic daring in front of the lens? Was going to pack light, but will be glad to work a bit with any Bears who would like some high quality images. Let me know if any of y'all would care to devote a wee bit of time to making a few photographs, or if I should just leave my rig at home.

Woohoo!  Mr. Vertical is in!

I may be in on this too, but I'm not totally committed yet (and I have to figure out if the employee voucher pass I've got will play at the Beav).

Of some interest to DonDenver,  Bumpfreaq, Mr Vertical, & Noodler:

I was at the BC today but definitely returning on Sunday.  Way less crowded than Breck

was on Tuesday.  Higher elevation north facing slopes ware decent packed snow. Trails

in the sun tended toward "Spring Conditions" ie icy early then softening nicely with some runs

later becoming mush depending on sun angle & time of day.  Golden Eagle was icy on top

& good in middle & lower sections. Runs in woods varied from good to kinda bad (frozen).

Tomorrow I'm at Vail meeting a Vail guide(in our ski club) , Fri may be Abasin? Sunday BC

Monday Vail again. I have cell #'s for  Bumpfreaq & DonDenver. Verizon works well.

I'll call early Sun.

Not sure I can make an early meetup at BC on Sunday due to being in Salida on Sat then

driving from Brec Sun am.

Possible BC meeting locations.

1. Beaver Creek landing. (never crowded) BC parking shuttle from Bear Lot (free day skier

lot) makes it's first stop here.  A ticket office, ski shop, locker rooms, rest rooms here.

And loading area for Lower BC MT HS quad - to mid-Bachelor Gulch.

2. Picnic tables in front of just mentioned Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch Hotel, The largest &

most opulent Log Cabin ($600 a night) I've ever seen. Bachelor Gulch HS Quad loads here.

3. Alt. later lunch meet site: Red Tail Camp mid-Mt restaurant. Located where Larkspur,

Grouse, & Birds of Prey HS Quads  all load.

If I could fit another road trip in before heading to Big Sky, I'd sooooooo be in on this offer.

Get lots of pics!

Yup, ABasin tomorrow, I'm thinking Copper Saturday, BC Sunday.  Come one, come all!

Had a great day with Noodler at Loveland today.  We sought out soft smooth snow form whipped cream to cream cheese until one or so then hit a bunch of laps off chair one.  Got some good pics.  Will post next week.

Well it was looking like ABasin for me on Friday, but due to a travel snafu (my crashpad hookup and cheap lift ticket dude got stuck in JFK), I'm in Winter Park tonight.  I'll be skiing WP tomorrow.   I'm sporting the red Cloudveil w/ black pants on Magnum 8.7s.  I'll check the PM pot before heading out tomorrow morning if anyone is at the Jane or WP.

Had a great day yesterday with BF at Loveland.  Started the day on the North side skiing stuff off chairs 4, 8, and 9 while things were softening up.  Hit the Tunnel Face and found fun in deep, steep corn and then ended the day lapping the mogul runs off chair 1 after they had softened up (Over the Rainbox, Avalanche Bowl, Cat's Meow).  That was the most mogul skiing I've done since getting back on skis and it was a blast (you just have to ski bumps with a bumpfreaq, right? ).  My body doesn't seem any worse for the wear surprisingly (although I couldn't seem to remember which way is up on my skis for much of the day ).

It was crazy warm and I'm working a good tan for March.  Conditions at Loveland right now are how I remembered them being in May previous years.  The snowpack is in a sad state in Colorado.

Sounds like a great day at Loveland!

I'm very glad to here that.  I knew that you had been sitting out for  awhile due to injury but I didn't know the whole story until yesterday.  My skin was crawling at the details.  You were skiing very well... really smooth.  If we had gotten together before your injury I'm sure you would have had to ski at half pace in order for me to keep up.

Tru dat Lars.  Your name came up in our conversation.  You would have been lovin' it!

The snow and the bumps were certainly not ideal but still held potential for big big fun.  I've been hearing a lot of complaints about the snow from peeps on the lift and such.  I even know of a few that are skipping days altogether, waiting for the next storm or maybe the next season.  Well you'll never find a bigger proponent of 'to each their own' but from the point of view of this midwesterner, all those peeps are spoiled, spoiled, spoiled.

I feel truely fortunate that I'm able to be here when there's snow on the mountains and fine friends to ski with.

cbire, enjoy the Jane.  I'll be there next week.

Bumpfreaq, I've been enjoying your post and I just want to let you know how jealous I am of your ski odyssey. It was great meeting and skiing with you at Blue Knob. That must seem so long ago to you now. I look forward to making more turns again someday. Keep the TRs coming. For those of us trapped in the mid-Atlantic yours has been a great vicarious adventure. I'm looking forward to the photos.

Thanks LHC, that means a lot to me.  I'm really looking forward to getting back to  your neck of the woods, hopefully with awesome snow conditions.

Had a good day today at ABasin with MDskier.  Looks like we might have some weather coming in.  It was mostly overcast and a bit windy today, although still warm.  It spit snow on and off...... mostly off.  Took a few good shots.  I'll get this TR going in earnest next week

Well said. I've been hearing some 'reports' of how the snow in VT is better than Colo. Yeah ok, what ever.  When I was in Utah in Jan '03 it was one of the worst years in like 25 years at that time. (dumped after we left) Still better than out here.

Though I must say the spring conditions last week were amazing.  It's colder again now.

BF & I had a great day at Abasin today. Palli, 2nd, 3rd and West Alley were skied well.

A local showing better style entered the lower waterfall "killer chute" just ahead of us, crashed,

did a yard sale, slid a hundred feet and stopped just left of a tree- barely missing said tree.

Abasin had sun and much better snow than mid-February.

LH Crazie:   BF & I both escaped the mid-atlantic after the Blue Knob GTG.

Mdskier, didn't mean to diss you. Thanks for your participation in the BK event. I enjoyed the runs we made together and I do hope that you and BF and all the other attendees at the events at our little mid-Atlantic resorts make it a habit. All of you folks make the gathering what it is. I knew the freaq was moving on to bigger venues but I didn't know you were as well. Keep us posted on your fun times. I may yet escape the mid-Atlantic for a late foray to VT. That's a long shot but still I hope. Many things must align for it to happen.

What's the plan for Beaver Creek on Sunday?  Meeting place?  Time?

We will be skiing BC tomorrow.  My bad on the lack of info.  I am not so familiar with BC but will have more info early tomorrow morning.

Anyone looking for info on a meeting place please PM me with your phone number (or just PM me and I'll give you my digits) and I'll get info out in the morning.

Mr. Vertical and I will be on the road somewhere around 7:15, headed for a free parking lot at BC.

Sorry for the confusion.  Again, my bad.
