Ski boot sizing vs. street shoe sizing?

I went for a boot fitting this week, and was sized as a 25.5.  Didn't find the boots for me (well, the Atomic M100 and Nordica SpeedMachine 8 fit well, but the 8 was too flexy and the M100 had damaged buckles ... sigh).

Afterwards, I looked up various boot charts, and was surprised that a 25.5 ski boot coincides with a street size 7.5 shoe??  But I typically wear a size 9, sometimes 8.5 ... can that be right?

as Bud says perfectly possible,

ignor the charts and the shoe size you buy, trust the shell check and what fits your foot

Great, that's reassuring, thanks!  I ended up buying the Atomic M100 online in size 25.5, because I couldn't find it anywhere else locally ... but I was second-guessing myself, wondering if somehow I had screwed up on remembering the size I'd tried on!

If it's any consolation, I wear an 8.5 shoe and just got fitted for size 25 boots. Freaked me out when I got home and looked up the sizing charts, just like you!

Your sizing precisely matches mine.  I am a street shoe 9, sometimes 8.5.  My last boots and current ones are by Noridica and they are both 25.5. That is typical.

Thanks again for the confirmation, all!  So I just gotta share (read:brag) for a moment ;)

I found the Atomic M100 boots at my local retailer, running ~480.  Pricey, but worth it for the 2+hr fitting and personal attention; too, I had the full intention of buying boots locally .. support your local businesses and all that, eh?  Sadly, these particular boots had buckle damage; so I call around to other local stores, no hits.  Couldn't even find them online, amazingly!

So then I take a chance and google "atomic m100 25.5" .... bam, first hit was an ebay sale for $99 ... for new boots?!?!  Called the vendor, got a good feel, decided to take a chance ... guess I'll find out in the next few days if I've been shysted ;)

been skiing on these boots for a couple of seasons, they're fantastic!  Highly recommend em ... still have a bit of sole slope and slight pinching from time to time, so next stop, custom foot fitting at a local store.

BTW, I'm guessing that Atomics must run large, because my wife (who is ~1 size lower than me, woman's 8-8.5 to my 8.5-9) got fitted for Salomon & Nordica boots, and she was trying on 25s and 25.5s ?!

or she wants/need a bigger fit.  Maybe she was not fit in the right size too?
