PM issues

Thread Starter

Site gurus - since the new site, my some of my PMs are not in my PM list.  I got them as emails but they don't show on this site.

If you're willing to forward one of the emails in question to us (preferably with a link to this thread as a reminder), that'll help us research the issue further.

Another PM issue.

I really am getting to like the new site, but the one thing that really irritates me is replying to a PM.  I love the threaded display, but when I'm replying I can't see the PM I'm replying to.

If it was the full page editor interface, and showed the PM thread below, as that interface shows the last 10 posts (when replying to a thread,)  it would be awesome.

Quoting the PM you're replying to would work, but might really mess up the threaded display.  Seems like the full page editor would be the way to fix this problem elegantly.

I can't move the reply box out of the way to see the rest of the page, it's a very buggy thing on my Mac at least, making Full Page display my default on threads has gotten ridden of that irritation - can we do that with PMs?

So Dev team, can we use the full page editor for PM's?

It's not setup for that at the moment, but it's certainly something we could add.

What browser are you using so that dragging the reply box around is buggy?

Both Camino and Safari on the Mac.

What version of Safari are you running?  I just tested it and had no trouble at all.

Editor drag on Safari 4 seems to work OK, until you drag it up and force the page to scroll. Then, it makes a pretty disturbing flickering redraw, but once you stop, it's fine.

Interesting... if I scroll up by dragging my editor hover up the thread, when I submit the post, it doesn't scroll the window to the location of my new post, but rather leaves me at the location to which I had scrolled.

OK amend my comment.  I am on Safari 4, and the really buggy behavior was in Camino. I'm talking about PM's not posting, as I've changed my posting to default to full page.

However the problem still is that I can't read what I'm replying to, I can't drag the reply box out of the current window area, and thus the PM that I'm replying to is always partially covered by the reply box.

Thus the Full Page editor option being desirable, as I can scroll down to the PM I'm replying to.

Gotcha.

In the meantime, you should be able to click and drag the PM reply window off the left or right side of the screen to temporarily read the messages and get some context.  Does that not work for you?

Really doesn't work well for me at all.  I have actually copied the PM thread to a text file so I could keep it open in another window so I could reply intelligently.  If the reply box was a real "window" then I could deal with it.  If I could quote the PM I'm replying to so it shows up in the reply box that would work for me.

But it doesn't work anything like email replying does, so it's extremely awkward this way.

Thanks for looking into this Teddy, and I hope you can get this fixed soon because PM's are a big part of the community aspect of epic.

I am working on my first PM on this site.  Need to post three times to be able to do it.  This is post 3. Going to test the PM.

Is there a button to FORWARD a Private Message?  I see options for New Massage, and I see the option to reply to an existing message, but I can't figure out how to forward a PM to a different bear.
Anybody?

Seems to me that the message wouldn't be so Private then.
We have been discussing the forwarding solution with the Dev Team.  PMs on this platform are threaded, so the history is available.  A forwarding function that copies that thread and enables you to forward to the original recipients plus... is probably the way we will go.  There are many reasons to bring additional people into a conversation after it has started.  In my case, being a moderator means I get inquiries that are best handled by another person, so I'd like to forward, and still track the conversation.

I want a "New Massage" button! How do I get that? ;-)

sibhusky - It's no different than email, only as private as BOTH parties want it to be.

There is a "Compose New" button almost right in the middle of the middle of the PMs screen.
