Ok so its tax refund time and i'm definately earmarking a goodly portion for some new sticks. I need to narrow down my search and was hoping for some input:
Me: 26, 5'10, 155lb, advanced/expert
Rite now I've got a pair of Atomic Nomad Highnoons in 164. While a good ski (and a great deal at the time) they are just too light and flexible. So something stiffer is in order, the question is this:
The Nomads are 76mm underfoot, do i go for a narrower carving ski (Tigershark 10, Progressor 9, Supershape Speed, etc) - Go wider for more versatility (AC50, CX80) - or stick with the same width and just get something more substantial (Contact 4x4, AC30)
I spend most of my time carving on groomers, eastern conditions. I do like the occassional glade or bump run now and then but i would say the Nomads could handle that. We dont get too many powder days in NE so is the 80+ width really not worth considering or does the AC 50 not give up much on hardpack?
I demod the progressors and the supershape speeds, really liked them both, definately had the meatier feel I need. Haven't ridden a volkl in years, what might i expect as far as how it feels, damp like the heads or more snappy like i remember? The reviews on the 10ft switchless Tigersharks are dynamite and the price is right (450 or so - ebay)
Anyone have any other insights or reccomendations? trying to keep it under 700 bucks here so those really sweet Kastle Rx's are WAYYYYY out of consideration. Should I wait until after the season or are the prices not going to get much better than they are?
