This happened nearly a year ago (if not more than a year ago), so "new" is all relative I guess.

The date the video was submitted is December 18th, 2008.

FWIW

this particular youtube video may have been submitted in December 2008, but the actual event still happened much before then and was reported through a variety of other legit news outlets.

regardless, it's still pretty amazing to watch.

You are super cool to be so smart about when things happened.  Your comments on this sweet video are pointless.  I never new there was a record, or cared.  Who cares when it happened?  Relatively.

I'm not trying to be cool, and didn't mean to sound condescending or like a know-it-all (because I'm far from it) in my earlier posts. I'm just pointing out that there is no new world record.  It was set last year.

The title of this thread is "NEW world record cliff drop..."....when in fact, it's not new.  I read the title and thought to myself, "Wow did someone go bigger than what Fred did last year?.  And then I opened the thread, it was just old news of what Fred did last year and there is no new world record.  So it's misleading to some.

And as I said above in my other post, "regardless, it's still super cool to watch".  So in a way, I agree with you that it shouldn't matter much when it happened, but when it's presented as "new" when in fact it's not, it does matter.

You're developing quite a reputation for yourself in a very short amount of time - and now you're slamming on a mod (and a good one at that).  Take a break from posting for a week or two and just read threads and learn what Epic is about.  Then come back and try to add something to this community rather than detract from it.

Starfish,

You are new around here...why not treat people with a bit more respect.  Tyrone is a respected, thoughtful, longtime contributor to the board who is an amazing skier but is incredibly humble and helpful to skiers of all level on the board.  Your tone isn't cool and your comments aren't helpful.  Perhaps you're just trolling or trying to be provocative...if you are...your act is tired.  Otherwise...chill out and try contributing to the stoke factor rather than insulting people.

Starfish's post to tyrone was no less disrespectful that tyrone's post to me.  So let it go people.  Tyrone was rude, starfish was rude, it's all good.  I intentionally put "351 feet"  in the title of the thread so that people would know which world record I was referring to.

As to the drop, it was insane.  He was hauling ass when he went off that cliff, it's amazing they were able to dig him out.  He's lucky to be alive, imo.

^^^^^I don't see anything wrong with TS's post, and even if it were curt, Chaos is a big boy and takes his medicine regularly without complaint.

I agree, the inference of such a thread title is that it just happened, like yesterday!, and it didn't. For people involved in stretching the perameters of the sport, the timing of the event and the claim made on a certain date is a critical factor.

I guess I didn't realize the critical factors involved in my post and the intensity of those that "stretch the perameters".   lol!

Hey, did ya guy's hear, there's a tie for the 351' world record.

It's cool, both their names are Fred and both Norwegian.

...I'm from Norwegia.

what's up with "lol"? Everything is bullshit, right? I will definitely ignore you more intensely in the future.

What is the big controversy here? Tyrone's point was astute since this thread looked like something brand new--that's what I thought when I opened it, so the clarification was helpful and relevant. And the video is pretty sweet. End of story. What's to keep bickering about?

Hey Chaos , can you go and edit the name to  "NEW TO ME RECORD " or somthing like that heheh

Thanks for the effort

So he didn't realize that this record has already been posted and he didn't realize this so everyone is making fun of him?

Wow.

Chaos is a character on this board who appeared maybe 6 months ago in a flurry of egotistical and humorous threads where he positioned himself as a god of skiing.

Most likely he's an alter ego of another member, some of whom have multiple personalities on epic.

So for those of you wondering what's going on in this thread - there's some history here.   Feeling sorry for him being corrected in this context is, well just go to his home page and read some of his threads.

^^^^ Please do NOT listen to this advice^^^^

Keep posting so I can keep laughing.

I know who Chaos is, but he sounded serious this time.

If you haven't noticed, about 30% of his posts are good information (you can laugh but I'm serious).

Serious-ly wrong... which is funny (seriously) when you set yourself up the way he has.

Tyronne Shoelace is about as mellow and 'stoke-oriented' as it gets around here, people coming down on him to defend Chaos (who is funny and self effacing in his/her own way) is also pretty darn funny. All in all a true picture of why internet chatrooms/ forums can be tragic and humorous all at the same time.

Search out the old "Epic is an elitist club" thread, some people spend too much time here and start to joke amongst themselves, which can seem 'elitist' if you don't get the background (which indicates you have a more full filling life than, well, me.)

Wow.

Are you serious?

If you think for a minute that he wouldn't rip on you, had you started this thread, think again.

This is a troll thread to intentionally get this reaction.

Stop and LOOK - it's Chaos, the one with the solid gold skies. If their was a record set, he'd know.

Let's celebrate with some lutefisk and lefse!

Actually, let's throw the lutefisk in the lake and just put some butter on the lefse...I used to cry when my Weegie mom would bring lutefisk home, because I would have to stay outside for a whole day while she boiled the lye out.
