Hi. I've been browsing the forums here for a couple of months, but this is my first post (great community here, by the way!)
I've been skiing for the last three years, mostly in Vermont (Sugarbush) and a few smaller mountains closer to home (I live in NYC). I just took my first trip to Utah skied 6 days out there, and plan to make a habit of getting back there for at least a few days each year. I've taken a bunch of lessons since I started, and have manged to improve pretty rapidly to (according to my instructors) a level 6 to 7 skier.
While I was out in Utah, I demoed some Volkl AC30s in 170cm size. They were infinitely better than what I've been using (Fischer White Heat 165cm), and from everything I've read, will probably be a good fit for most of my skiing. I ski mostly blue / black runs, with occasional forays into the trees / off piste, and am getting more comfortable with skiing bumps as I improve.
I was all set to buy the AC30s, and was happy to spend a few extra bucks to support a local store, rather than buying on line. The store has terrific service, and a pretty good program for free / discount tunes etc. The problem is, they only have the skis I want in 177cm
I'm on the fence about buying this length, as I'm unsure whether the extra 7cm is going to change the ski much. I'm 6' tall and 190lbs, so maybe it would be OK, but I probably won't have a chance to demo before the end of the season.
Anyone have any thoughts on whether the 170cms or 177cms would be a better fit for me?
