development list

What's the latest "version" of the development list?  So far the only one I've found is dated 2/11.  I am hoping there is still more work being done on the search feature.

That's my fault for not updating that list. There is continued development going on all over the site. I'll make sure to update that today.

Thanks!

Did you?  Haven't found it.

We updated the original thread.  Is there anything specific you were looking for?

  1. Search to list POSTS instead of THREADS.
  2. List of who is online right now, not just an indicator next to a person's name, but the list of who's online.
  3. Ability to select Supporter's Lounge when doing searches if you are a supporter.  That is currently not listed in the selections, so if I'm looking for supporter discounts, I get tons of threads in every forum and can't limit it to that forum.  Then, you look in the thread and someone just used the words and in fact it's not a supporter discount.
  4. If you do a search and it doesn't produce what you want, the ability to hit the back key and not have to fill everything in all over again.

1, 3 and 4 are all on the list and will be taken care of.

Just curious, could you explain why the list of who's online is useful?  Also, just so you know, the online status is available from the User Profile pages.

It saves me going into each user's profile to see IF they are online.  On the old board, the list of all the users was there, along with an * next to their name if they were "buddies".  So, if for instance I wanted a fast answer on something I could see who was there who might have the answer (and who I like their opinion) and just PM them.  It's slow to look up each of your favorite people and see IF they are online.

Okay, thanks for the explanation, much appreciated.

TeddyG,

I like to post images and view other images posted by others.  With the new software, the resolution of the images is lower than what was available on the old site.  In addition, on the old site, one could click on an image to open it in a new window to see it displayed full size in high resolution.  Is there any chance the image resolution can be increased to make them more clear and sharp?

I'm unable to reproduce this issue in firefox 3 or IE 6.  In both browsers, if I execute an advanced search, and then hit back, all form selections remain as I left them.

Is anyone able to reproduce this, and if so, in which browsers?

Going back after basic Search-  data is there as entered.

Going back after advanced search - settings stay except: "Threads started by:" value is cleared.

Same in both:

Safari Version 4 Public Beta (5528.16)

Firefox 3.0.7

OS:

OS X Version 10.5.6

Good catch Chris.  I just fixed the issue and it will be fixed with the next code push.

Thanks for the help.

I just did an advanced search, using IE7.  The threads listed in some order I didn't like.  I hit the back button.  The keyword was empty and all the drop down were back to default, so I had to reselect them all.

Try this: do an advanced search, and then immediately hit back without clicking any other links.

When I try this in IE 6 and 7, as well as firefox 3, it works without fail.

However, if I try an advanced search, open a dozen tabs, and then hit back, my form entries are indeed lost in IE7.  However, trying the same test in firefox, I don't have this issue.

I tried the same test with vBulletin's advanced search, and got identical results, suggesting this isn't unique to our platform.

Unfortunately, I believe this is browser-specific issue beyond our control.  The fact that it works in the simple test case (and in both test cases in firefox) suggests that we are correctly instructing the browser to store form entries, but IE7 decides to throw them away after some amount of navigation.

That's what I am doing, going immediately back.  Everything is gone, even the keyword.  I have to re-select the drop downs all over again as well.

I've tried everything obvious in IE 7 -- setting the cache size limit to the minimum, cranking security settings all the way up, and setting IE to store 0 days of history, and I'm still unable to reproduce this.

Is the advanced search form the only form you have this issue with?

Um, well, I never had this problem on the old site, I KNOW that.  I don't think I usually have it when I'm buying stuff online, but occasionally I know I have had it happen.  I'll have to pay attention to other sites more.  I just tested at SkiDiva, no problem.  However, I DO have the problem at www.paskiandride.com, if that helps at all.  Not sure what the difference is.

Thought of another feature I miss.  The ability to say how far back in time you want the search to go for "new posts".  Right now it only goes for 200 posts.  During the season, if you miss a day, there are far more than 200 threads to go through.  I end up going to the address bar and changing the number to find those old posts.  I used to ask for all the threads for the last two weeks that had new postings, but this doesn't seem to be available now.

Hopefully the prior View New Posts functionality will be back (at least as a user option) at some point.
