What binding should I mount to an Equipe 10 3V?

Hi everyone,

I am looking to buy some Equipe 10 3V's and I would like to know what everyone is using for their binding with this setup?

I want to get the 3v with the PowerAxe Plate pre mounted. If I did I was thinking of going with the S912 ti Pe2 to make it lighter. If I can't get the PowerAxe plate does that make a difference in binding choice?

This is going to be my east coast fun mobile for free skiing and beer club SL and GS racing.

I'm a level 7.5/8 skier and weigh in at 215 lbs. I'm 5'10" and currenly have my Tyrolia Free Flex 10's set to 8.5 Fr and 9 Rear on my G4's.

I don't think I need the S914 Pe2's but can get a deal on them.

If you were me, which binding would you choose and why?

Thanks for your input.

PS - I'm thinking 160 in the length since they'll be my fun zippy ski. Can't demo cause I'm getting them through a friend at great price so I have to pick size soon and no snow to demo them on. Will 160 be ok or should I go 168?

If you get the poweraxe race plate (which i highly reccommend) you cannot use an S912 ti PE2 or a S914 PE2. The race plate takes the place of the poweraxe on that binding. You will need only a S914 FIS, or a S912ti (no PE). These are both spacer bindings which mount on the poweraxe race plate. If you are racing i reccommend getting the S912 AXE+ or S914 AXE+ in order to give you even more lift, but when youre free skiing it probably wont be necessary, unless youre ripping some sick arcs. I used the poweraxe race sl on my 160cm 3V's last season, and am currently using poweraxe race sl plates on both of my Elan SLX's, so as you can see im a big fan of the plate. I think that a 160 length will work fine for you. There were a lot of big guys racing on 160 3V's last season. For an all mountain slalom, i would never go above 160 if i didnt have to.
Hope that is enough info for you, if you have any other questions let me know.

Thanks for all your help Greg.

I'm going to try and get the PowerAxe plate version of the ski but if I can't then so be it.

If I get the plate then I'll go ahead with the S912 ti to save weight. Given my size do you think that I need to go up to the S914? And what does the FIS version get you?

Thanks again.

Good luck in the season ahead.

Your Free Flex 10s.. Why would you want to switch from some of the most reliable, well engineered bindings in the world to something lesser? Just so the brand matches the ski??

I'm not changing my G4/Free Flex 10 setup. I just scored it at a swap for $400. They're practically new and work great. But I want have a opportunity to score Salomon gear at cost and I wanted to know what would be a good binding. I guess I should've been more clear in my subject.

PS - Just bought a pair of Equipe 10 3V's tonight. 160's. Now I just need the binding. A little snow wouldn't hurt either...

The FIS binding just puts you at a better angle for carving and keeps you below the 55mm minimum by a lot. I didnt like mine last year because they didnt feel high enough. If youre not racing i dont think you'll need the 914. A 12 DIN should be plenty for you, unless you are a very aggressive skier. At your size you should be free skiing around a 10 DIN probly, anything higher would be a little dangerous i think, unless of course your doing some hard core skiing. Good luck with those, you'll enjoy the 912ti setup on that plate, its one of the best slalom plates ever built in my opinion.

I use the 912 Ti binding on my setup. Great binding, great ski. I love this ski for both recreational racing (Masters) and quick turning on-piste.

I'm 5'10", 180 lbs. and I have a 168 length ski.
