I am 6'3", 240, former college football player, athletic, been skiing for 20 years. Used to ski more, but kids, work ... kids have picked it up and love so getting back into the groove. I guess I am between level 7 or 8--can make all turns, enjoy bumps after some snow, but not hard ones, usually carve, but skid/scarve some. Just back from trip to Winter Park, took Sierra Jim's advice and demoed the Dynastar Mythic Rider in longest length I could get, 184, and loved it. it was particularly handy after 7" of heavy wet snow and resulting crud, was able to get it to float a little in some untracked powder. Best thing was that the MR was an absolute crud killer. This was my first experience on anything wider than 72 mm in the waist. Did notice slower edge to edge, but was able to make quicker turns in trees and bumps and loved zooming down cruisers making longer radius turns.
Wasn't able to try anything wider, but the MR has peaked my curiosity for something even wider that can still do ok on the groomers.
I am curious about the Pro Rider, but fear it might demand too much technical expertise/technique given some of the reviews. It does appear that the current year model might be less demanding.
I am not exactly sure what would happen if I tried to scarve this ski--will I just fall on my face, flip head over heals, disintegrate? I am partly kidding of course, but I've not tried a lot of skis, don't have much demo opportunities. I've never experienced the symptoms of being overmatched by a ski. I was concerned about skiing the 88 mm MR, but quickly realized I was just worrying/overthinking the issue of additional width. Not to sound vain, but I seem to have enough power/size, that I haven't ever experienced the feeling that I couldn't handle something. Anyway, bottom line is I am wondering whether I could handle the Pro Rider? Any thoughts would be appreciated
As for the LP--from what I've read, the Line Prophet 100 is supposed to be able to do everything pretty well, handles crud ok, and is probably more foregiving than the Pro Rider. However, I am concerned that it might not be the best choice for someone my size, even in the longest length (190?) Any thoughts on that concern would also be appreciated
Also, any comparison of the two would be great. Thanks.
