Hi all. I'm a relative newbie here but have been reading for a few months and getting some great info. Id appreciate any suggestions for an East Coast Soft Snow ski to add to my volkl super sport allstar carvers. Basically a ski for softer snow, and quick dashes into the trees for pow on those rare occasions. The twist to this thread is i would like to try one of the more independent companies. Relevant info as follows:
43 years old and feeling all of it. .e.g don't have the leg strength and stamina I used to. I can charge hard, and make super quick turns for fun or to escape but right now its more about the legs then much else.
6 foot and about 173lb
Been skiing of an on for 20 years-prefer smaller snappy turns but love high speed groomer GS turns
Thinking it should be a fun, lively snappy type ski to contrast my heavyish 168 volkl supersport motion allstars. Mine are 168 and they are defiantly a drop on the short side. I had them out on slushy day last week and they were a bit too "hooky" for less then hard pack to my liking.
This year out west I tried the dynastar Mythic rider on an epic pow day and while I had a great day i thought they were boring and felt "hard" on groomers and needed too much speed to get going.
Had a great day on post pow crud and soft pow on large and long rossi S7 (rocker, with sidecut). first Rossi i ever liked. Hated the older B2-3. Really like them but they are probably too big and heavy for east coast.
Tried a watea on a groomer hard pack day-- think it was a 90 ish-- but have no memory of them so i couldn't have been too impressed.
So overall looking for something for softer spring conditions or pow, fun, quick turning but with ability to test the limits if necessary.
Line Prophet 90 or 100- 181cm
Liberty Hazamat at 181
High Society Free ride in a shortish length like a 179
Moment Tahoes -length unknown
And of course then there is the ever present Mojo 90 and Gotamas
Thanks in advance for any suggestions comments. Demos are hard with these smaller manufacturers
