Current CO conditions...are they getting in on the snow??

We will be there this Friday for 3 1/2 days of skiing!!  Staying in Avon and skiing the Vail resorts...just got approved for an increase in my Home Equity Line!!!

The forecast calls for mountain snow/valley rain most of the week.  How much are you guys expecting?  Also when they say valley rain are they referring to Avon (alt. 7400') or Denver on east?  I'm curious if the bases of these resorts can actually get rain (not including Breck/Keystone since they are much higher than Vail/BC).

Thanks.

Denver isn't a valley.  They are referring to the towns of Vail, Avon, Edwards etc.  Yes, the bases can get rain.  Let's hope it doesn't happen though.

I wouldn't worry too much about the base getting rain.  The stuff you will most likely want to ski is a good bit above the base and you will only see at when heading down at the end of the day.

16" new at Highlands up high.  Only 3" at buttermilk, so elevation did make a big difference.

We got 8" at Breck and it was super wet like the snow we get in May.  Really nasty stuff.  It's pretty much impossible to rain here in Feb/Mar but that storm was as close as it gets.  When I checked the weather yesterday afternoon, Aspen was reporting rain.  It can certainly rain at the lower areas like Vail/BC but it's very rare and you shouldn't worry about it one bit.

ETA:

Ignore the weather forecasts concerning rain vs. snow for Colorado ski areas.  They are usually based on expected temps which are a minor factor, but dew point is far more of a factor.  In short, even if they predict rain, it will almost certainly be snow on the ski hill.

On my way out to Summit Co on Friday for a week.

I heard there were a few windy days recently that made everything a bit crusty. Also heard that there's been a bit of a dump up at A-Basin/Keystone.

Any update gratefully received, especially if it's about feet and feet of fresh pow under clear blue skies ;-)

See y'all real soon!

I'll be skiing Thursday and would be happy to relay some info on conditions depending on which resort I end up at.

I skied Monday at Keystone - the last day of my 3 weeks in Summit County.  Despite temps in the 30s, it was all snow, but heavy and wet and everyone got soaked as it melted on contact with clothing and gloves.  As was said above, don't worry.  You will have a good time.
