Change of plans...  we had some work appt's cancel, so we're skiing all day at Blue.  (that's where my rep wants to go..  It can't be that bad? Right, Phil?  On a weekday? )

If anyone is going to be there, I'll be on Blizzard SL skis and orange Tecnica boots and I'll be wearing a green Mountain Hardwear jacket.

I'm heading out right now...

A rare oppurtunity. A Michigan dude skis a 1000 ft verticle Pa mountain with 2 high speed quads and it just so happens it's Philpug's favorite (to beat up on). U.P. Racer you have to a TR about Blue. Is Phil yea or nea?

Ok...  here is the deal.  Today was my first day skiing in Pennsylvania, so I don't have anything to compare Blue to...     I'll tell you this..  I was truthfully not expecting much out of PA skiing.  Yes, I know you have mountains, but I also know that you get almost no snow.  I know what happens when 100% manmade snow gets groomed, skied on, melted, refrozen, groomed, etc, over the course of a week or so.  I could only imagine what happens over the course of a season!  I fully expected frozen granular over ice.

Today the snow conditions were acually really good.  I had my SL skis and I spent the whole day carving SL turns on the hard pack.  Every few runs I'd take a spin through the terrain park and I got more and more brave as the day went on.  The biggest jump really sent you!!

Blue doesn't have particularly interesting terrain, but it has a decent amount of vertical, and alot of good terrain is serviced from their high speed 6-pack which really allows you to get a ton of runs in.  I have to say though, it is REALLY, really weird to be skiing at a place where snow only exists on the runs themselves....  ??  I've never done that before.  You literally ride up the lift directly over dirt and grass!

All in all, I had a great time.  I'd do it again, and I'd like to check out some other PA areas as well....

U.P. Racer and I settled for a quick phone conversation, and not some beers. My loss as I'll buy the first round for anyone who jumps into Corbits. Jamie, next time you come to Jersey in the winter, give some advance notice. Love to make some turns with you (read in-back-of-you).

U.P Racer described Blue and lack of regional snow in accurate terms. I skied Blue the following day and conditions were great. Your hearing this from a  Blue fan, that's as good as Blue gets, and, you got a full day of sun. Pa. weather is not condusive to great skiing. Over the next few days, it will be much warmer.

One amusing thought following our phone converstion. Jamie and I skied Jackson Hole earlier this year, but, not at the same time. He asked where I got hurt, I told him Thunder Bumps, he said that was my mistake. He told me in the many times he has skied at JH, he avoids the major bump runs. This is a guy who jumps into Corbit's!  Go figure!

Yeah...  I'm not a fan of bumps.  The kicker is, I'm a really good bump skier....  I just don't find it fun.

I ended up skiing Bear Creek with the Mrs and kid on Tuesday.  I would've come out to Blue on a weekday.  I'm in Kansas City now and its raining.  Supposed to rain Friday in PA and possibly Sat.  I'm beginning to think my ski season is over in the North East.  I need an excuse to use my travel benefits to get back out west.....

Chris,

Forcast is colder next week. Should be ok thourgh mid-march. PM next time you plan to go!

If its not horrendous, I may ski this Saturday.  I'm on a trip till Friday and do Sun-Mon, W-F next week.  I'll be at Elk at least the 7th, perhaps the 8th.

Most PA places are good until closing with plenty of base, except probably Blue Knob. Ski Roundtop has a good 3-6 foot base on 100% of the slopes. Up north should be about that. Possibly snow in the forecast for Sunday for some areas.

Alas, I will be spending those days boucning between such wonderful destinations as Daytona Beach (10 hours), Charlotte, NC (21 hours, far too many), and Minneapolis (9 hours).  I'd ski the trash hill at MSP if I had time to do more than ride to the hotel and sleep.
