Out here, we ski with wild critters a lot, and it's a gas (though people get pissed when an area is closed for bears that have awakened early).
Once watched a Marmot while on a long slow lift. Kept trying to climb direct, up and over a cornice. would almost make it and then roll over backwards, all the way to where it started. tried again. a couple times. We're all, yeah, make it, make it, ahhhhhh, ohhhhh. It fell over and rolled back. then went around, and up, and over. we all clapped and cheered. cute little fellow.
Was skiing solo on a low angle powder section of the hill, kind of outa the way and stealthy, and came across a weasle, all white with a black fleck on the tail. It was attempting to avoid me by running downhill. his mistake, as I was pretty capable of moving downhill just behind him. I quietly followed it quite a ways down the slope, making turns to keep him in sight, enjoying my close up look at an animal I rarely see.
brings the industrial mountain back to nature and back to life. (no porcupine sited)
