TR: Making the best of it @ Breck, 2/20/09

Headed to Breck today with Noodler and madmike.  Yesterday Breck was full of shin- to knee-deep untracked pow.  Today, not so much.  Mostly everything was either wind-buffed or wind-scoured.  We hit Horseshoe, Cucumber, Imperial, Whale's Tail, Y-Chute, CJs, Magic Carpet, and Arte's in our search for soft snow.  Most of the shots below are in/around Peak 7 Bowl.

Despite the seemingly good conditions though, we are hurting for snow.  We did find some good snow, but it took some work.  The wind has been terrific, exposing a lot of rocks, stumps, and bare ground that just a week ago (or even yesterday) were fully covered.  With no new snow forecasted for the next few days, it'll be rough.

Nice Shots.  Way to get after it.  We need snow bad.

Oh yeah, that was a crappy day! ;)

That was a great, fun pitch to ski.  The snow was a bit crusted/wind blown, but nothing that the Goats and trip9s could make easy work of.

Thanks Faisal for the great photos.  Most definitely the best of me in action so far.  A couple of these I'm not even too embarrased of my technique.  :)

Here are a couple of my favs from the day...

Oh, since Mike did it I have to follow suit.  This pic has got to be one my most fav in all the times faisasy has shot me.  I just love the steepness and the backdrop - absolutely beautiful.

< I think this was just after or just before the shot included above, but I like the way the skis are positioned better >

Faisasy - your shots make me look like I actually know what I'm doing.

My mobile phone camera pales in comparison to faisasy's D50, but here's two of the shots I grabbed of faisasy (since the poor guy is almost always on the other side of the lens):

We're coming out for our first trip out west this week;  I hope some snow shows up before our first ski day on Thursday the 26th.s  It still looks awesome; great shots, that's for sure!

So, Uncle Louie, how long are you there for? This time next week, I'll be cutting tracks.

CW :-)
