What is the status of the Advanced Search feature?

Thread Starter

Particularly the 'Search in Forum' one.   There is stuff in the Lounge I've been looking for; I know exactly who posted it and what words (she) used but can't get to it no how?

Personally, I'd like it to be rigged so only supporters can search lounge content if at all possible.  I don't want just anybody to be able to google what's posted there even if they still can't open it after they see the results.  As for the rest of the search funcionality, that is what lead me to the site in the first place.  It is critical

  1. The search is #1 on the development list. We expect the first step to be launching the new engine, which will make all results far more relevant.
  2. The advanced search elements will then be added over the weeks following that initial launch.
  3. You will only be able to search for results in forums you have permission to see. Google will only be able to search forums and other pages that guests can see.

Hope this helps explain things a bit...

Any information on how the search results will be changed?  One of the things driving me crazy when I search is that I can't see how old a thread is, how many responses it has, etc.  When I'm just searching for general info rather than a specific thread, I find myself clicking on a bunch of useless threads (i.e. 1 post threads with no responses, etc.).

The new search engine is now up. Give it a shot. More coming with the advanced search options, but this is a good start.

I haven't seen a response on this.  How is the search results page going to change?  Right now, without having any information on when the last post was, how many posts in a thread, what forum the thread is in, etc, the search results are incredibly frustrating.  The advanced search criteria like we used to have is very important, but if the search results don't have more information, searching is still gonna be very painful.

I don't know the answer, so I've asked the dev team to comment.

Yes, we will be providing a great deal more information on the search results page (in addition to the advanced functionality).

Advanced search just went live.  there is an icon to the right of the search button that will let you search by

Titles only

Date criteria

By forum

By member posting

But there's still no "show posts only" feature, it gives you the thread and then you've got to search through it for the keyword.

Sorting by "number of replies" is a key feature as well.  This will put the most popular threads in order and should reduce  the number of repeat questions.

I always use this feature first on other forums to see if some of my questions can be answered before I even do a specific search.

I also really appreciate the search "titles only" feature for really narrowing in on the specific topic.

Thanks.

Great site and community overall!
