dalbello women's boot size conflict

hello,

i just purchased a pair of dalbello aspire 60 women's boots from an online shop for my daughter. she wears a 7 or 7 1/2 street shoe. she has been renting dalbellos the past couple of years and been getting a size 25. not sure if they were women's or men's boots.

anyway, i ordered the aspires in a 25. well the box says 25, the stickers on the boots say 25, but the sole of the boot has molded into it 255. i assuming that's the correct size and that the the box and stickers are wrong. my daughter insists that the boots fit ok, but i think she just doesn't want me to send them back (the online store will take them back no problem and reimburse return shipping because of the apparent sizing discrepancy). i'm not sure if i should go by what she says or just return them. this was the last pair of 25 in stock so i can't get the smaller size.

does she need to go skiing in them to really tell if they're too big? she only ski blades if that makes a difference.

thanks!

Hi Kathy,

If she wears a 7 shoe she should fit into a 24 shell(might even fit in some 23s)---read the "wiki" about sizing---a 25 and a 25.5 shell are the same exact size except for the thickness of the factory footbed installed in the liner(the 25 footbed is thicker)---the liner is even the same size.  These 25s you bought will be to big with just a little use and her foot will move around inside them forever (read lack of control here).  My wife wears a 6.5 shoe size and skis in a 22.0 boot.

thanks for the reply! that's my fear...that they feel fine now but will be too big after she breaks them in, and then it's too late to return/exchange them.

she's actually closer to a 7 1/2 street shoe...that's what her running shoes and sneakers are. when she gets shoes that don't come in half sizes, she goes into a 7 because 8's are too big.

i wonder why the ski resort gives her a 25 when she rents......she tells them that she wears a 7 1/2, and that's what she gets. i will say that she's never come home complaining about feet/legs hurting, but then again, i don't think that ski blading requires quite as much out of you as skiing.

i read the sizing information and will see if i can't get her cooperation in figuring out if these really are too big.

i also wanted to mention that the box and the stickers on the boot, which both say that the boots are 25 (they actually say 250), has 7.5 as the US conversion size.

so i would imagine that if the boots are actually 25.5 or 255, which is the number molded into the sole, then the US size would be an 8.

would conversions vary among brands and styles depending on the liner and other variables?

The following chart is from Garmont and differs from most size conversion charts in that it shows a recommended Mondo size nearly one-size smaller than nearly all other boot manufacturer's charts.  The bootfitters have considered this chart to be a more accurate reference for sizing, although it should not be a substitute for actually trying on a boot and getting expert fitting assistance.

you are right....we took out the liner and the footbed says 25 and the liner says 25, so they are 25s in a 255 shell.

now the issue is if she should really be in a smaller size. she insists that these are snug and fit good and that a smaller size would be too tight. she's only rented ski boots so it's possible she's been wearing boots that were really a bit too big and is used to that fit.

Hi again,

There are some truths in life, one being a rental guy is not going to argue with you about sizing boots and he does not want to see you back because the boots to small.  another one is, mom told you "your toes should not touch the front of your shoes",  reason being---- the shoe shortens when flexed at the ball of the foot at toe off.

Your daughter should fit into a 23 if the liner is heat molded, and it will fit snugly but comfortably.  Find a boot fitter and get the right size, she will thank you for it once the boot breaks in.

thanks to everyone who replied here and privately. i went through the sizing guide and they are definitely too big as everyone has told me.

i'm going to send them back, and then look for some good sales at some local ski shops and get her fitted properly.

lesson learned!

thanks again, and i'm so glad i stumbled across this site in my quest for sizing information!
