New Site and Messages issue

Thread Starter

More times than not under my Firefox browser (on more than 1 PC) I try and send either a private message or start a message or reply to a thread and I get the box up on the screen with only the Title line. It takes a few times of closing and relaunching before the actual message body box comes up along with the toolbar for things like the formating and codes and the message can be typed. Anyone else experiencing this? Is it something to do with Java, the browser or what?

Are you waiting long enough?

I do see latency issues causing it to take a very long time to load... but it eventually does.

Definitely waiting long enough for the site to pop up the box for the message and say it is done. (Just like this reply) it was about 11 seconds to load over a high speed DSL and then browser stated it was done but there was only an empty box on the screen. Had to cancel and then relaunch the reply button again.

FYI I have an extensive computer background, 26 years in PC's- have done web pages, know all the tricks of clearing cache, etc. and refresh does nothing when this happens. Only close the box via cancel and relaunch (sometimes 2 or 3 times). As I stated I use Firefox (more than 1 version) on more than 1 PC and it happens most every time since the upgrade to the new look and site.

If you need any further details, let me know I can provide them in a PM as far as versions of Javascript, Firefox version, etc.

I can send a screen shot also of the system with the blank box (off the thread?) . I just tried it again and it is a minimum of 2 times to get the tool bar and a box to type anything into.

Please do send what you can. XP or Vista?

No Vista on either machine, One PC has Windows XP Home (Service Pack 2 ) on it, and Firefox 1.5. The other PC is actually still running Windows 2000 Pro and the same version of Firefox 1.5. Same thing happens in both cases. Both are fully patched and the reason for older version of Firefox is because of some add-on extensions that do not work with the newest Firefox 3.0. I can test 3.0, Opera and Internet Explorer to see if it follows or is only a Firefox issue.

It definitely appears to be a Firefox issue, as with Internet Explorer the box comes up the first time everytime on these same 2 computers.

Firefox 1.5? Is there a reason that you haven't updated to a more recent (and secure!) version? Current is 3.0.6.

Time to give up on the old extensions or add-ons.  Dump them and update.  I'd be surprised if there isn't an equivalent or better add-on to replace whatever you are holding on to.

Sorry, I missed that in the OP. What functions? I'd be surprised if there aren't new ones that effectively duplicate the functions... but we can't keep compatibility with every browser that might be out there... And I'm pretty sure this is going to turn out to be an issue with FF 1.5 (which is about 3 years old at this point and has a number of security issues that I don't think I'd want to have on my Windows systems...!).
