Kicking Horse, Revelstoke...

I am leaving on 2/25 & returning on 3/14.  Can anyone give me a "good news" long range forecast for interior BC?  Can or will things turn around in the next week?

I am beginning to have some doubts.

Does anyone have experience with airlines giving credit for purcahsed tickets, if I decide to change my plans at the last minute?  I am booked on Delta.

Hope I'm not hoping for a miracle,

JF

Unfortunately you will be screwed by Delta.  When I tried to rework my ticket last week to come home from SLC the change fees were more than the ticket.  It was cheaper and easier to use Southwest.  Hopefully you will just get great snow and not have to change.

What is it you're having doubts about?  I was up at Kicking Horse a week ago and the weather was phenomenal and the snow was fantastic.

Here's a photo I took in front of where we were staying, at the mountain.

Thanks exracer,

I've been hearing that there hasn't been any significant snowfall in quite some time.  I am hoping things will turn around by the time I get there, but I can't seem to find any forecasts that go out more than a few days.  I have nothing against nice weather, but some fresh snow would be nice.  Can you give any more insight on the conditions?  The picture looks nice!

Thanks,

JF

I can't give you much of a ski report, unfortunately, as I was there on business and only got onto the mountain for a couple of hours.  Skied some groomers with my 'lady', and the conditions were great, but have no idea what it's like in the bowls.  I was impressed with the amount of snow on the mountain (much more than around Banff).  It looks like some snow is forecast for tomorrow, but the rest of the week is sunny with temps slightly above freezing.  You won't be disappointed with the coverage, but you might not see much fresh.

Here's another pic, taken from the front porch of where I was staying, so you get a good idea of the coverage at base elevation.

I was going to revelstoke, but it sounds like its just groomers, so I am headed to Whislter, more of a chance of new snow there

Revelstoke just groomers?????? Are you kidding me. Revelstoke gets nearly twice the average anual snowfall than whistler. Also, it is all about gladed POW skiing and open bowls at Revy. I don't know where you're getting your info, but don't let the blue runs on the trail map fool you, Revelstoke is no joke.

Also, the forcast for Revy is for snow all of next week. You're making a huge mistake going to whistler. Don't get me wrong, Whistler is a fantastic mountain. But ski with a liitle new snow with 15000 people or ski lots of fresh with 500 people.

Go to Kicking Horse and Revelstoke. It's a low snow year in the Canadian Rockies, so don't expect a lot of powder. I was at KH 3 weeks ago and conditions were ok. Still fun in the chutes, but a little rocky. The chutes off the left side of the gondola (Glory, Truth, Dare, and Consequence) were in good shape. Some nice bump runs off lower terminator.

Whistler conditions are terrible. As the previous posters said, Revelstoke is not groomers.

Okay, I'm leaving Wed., looks like it is starting to snow.  Anyone have an up to date report?

Hoss, not being familiar with interior BC, I'm kind of lost here.  How far apart are KH and Rev?

Hopefully you made it to this part of the world in good shape.  Sunshine is reporting 11" (27cm) of fresh this morning.  Kicking Horse has 9" (23cm) overnight and Revy has picked up 13" (31cm) in the last 2 days.

It's about a 2 hour drive (in reasonable conditions) between Revy and KH.

Dude,

You hit it just right 56 cm at Kicking Horse over the last two days.

Should be epic.

I skied Kicking Horse Jan. 30 http://www.firsttracksonline.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7587

and Revelstoke Feb. 4-6 http://www.firsttracksonline.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7615.

While season snow was below average the skiing was good enough.  It probably got firm in the past 2 dry weeks, but with the new snow now should be at least as good as when I was there.

At the bottom of White Wall:

I am in Golden now.  First day of skiing today at KH.  They got a good amount of fresh snow yesterday with cold bluebird skies today.  Got first tracks on White Wall this morning & a run in Super Bowl  off the back of Terminator Peak at noon with alot of bushwacking at the bottom.  There are some

rocks at the tops of the chutes, but good coverage to the bottom.

I will post more when we have a better conection.

JF
