Today was a beautiful day at Jiminy - clear blue sky, temps in the high 20s, no wind. The great weather combined with the holiday weekend brought the biggest crowds to Jiminy I have seen all season. All the outer parking lots were packed and there was a 5-10 minute lift line at the Berkshire Express.
Line at around Noon
I had a lot of fun skiing with my family and my brother and his two kids. We spent most of the day skiing runs off of the fixed grip lifts - Whitetail Quad, Widow White's Quad and Summit Tripple. I hardly ever use these lifts because they are so slow, but today they were great because they had no lines. We skied one run with Paul Jones after a surprise encounter with him at the Whitetail Quad. Thanks for the pic, Buzz. It came out great.
In the morning before the crowds arrived, I skied laps on Whirlaway, North Glade and Jericho. The snow was very hardpacked with a thin, groomed cover and was therefore scratchy and fast. These are typical conditions for Jiminy after the kind of thaw/freeze we had last week. If you plan on skiing Jiminy this week, try to get on the slopes as early as possible before the snow gets skied off.
By 11:00 AM, Left Bank and West Way - the two easiest runs from the top - were loaded with skiers and boarders.
Even Whitetail, one of the steepest runs at Jiminy, had a lot of people, including little tots, scraping and back sliding their way down the slope.
Our favorite run of the day was Panorama because it had very few people on it and had more soft snow than the other runs. I rarely ski this run so it was fun to try something different.
