I know both are popular, highly acclaimed skis. How different are they? If you have skied both, which one do you prefer?
Thanks in advance
I owned the RX8, and if you mean the iSupershape (the World Cup version is for serious racing), I own that right now. Both are great skis with very different feels. The 8 is/was light, lots of snowfeel, stiffish tail with a lot of energy, really grippy. Had a speed limit and didn't like rough snow, just OK in bumps because of the tail. The SS is heavy, smooth and damp, stiffer than the 8 except in the tip, less snowfeel, not as grippy but still very good on ice. Pretty high speed limit for a SL carver because it gets stiffer as it flexes, and nice in rough snow, smooth in bumps but the beef and sidecut limits your options.
IMO the RX8 was THE best ski ever made to learn how to carve well. It just gave you great feedback without punishing mistakes too much. Even for an expert, totally fun ski on smooth snow. IMO the SS is one of the best all-around frontside recreational carvers ever made for smaller mountains. Slow, fast, ice or chop, all good. And a bonus is that like all Heads it's easy on the legs because of the dampness.
