Is there any rational reason why I can't use 1 pair of lightweight telescoping trekking poles for all my outdoor activities---skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, maybe even cross-country skiing?
If I only needed one pair I could get a better quality, lightweight set.
Reason I hear most often against this is, "They wouldn't hold up under the weight of downhill skiing." That seems odd. I never put any weight on my poles while skiing. When I'm hiking they do bear a lot of weight. Or: "They would be likely to collapse." That's never happened while hiking, so why would it happen while skiing?
