When I had my boots fitted a while back my bootfitter put a 1.5" slice in the outer layer of my liner to alleviate some of the painful pressure I was feeling in my two smallest toes. The inner foam of the liner wasn't compromised at all, but I'm just wondering how common of a practice this is? Is it going to cause cause problems down the road with my toes getting cold?

I don't think so, I have a 3/4 by 1 inch rectangle cut out of my liner at the 5th met position, no problems with cold or liner integrity. by the way the liner is not water proof anyway.
