Atomic Nomad Blackeye's or Blackeye Ti's?

Hi everyone,

I've just joined epicski and have been trawling through the threads trying to decide what pair of all mountain skis to get. I think I've narrowed it down to the atomic nomad blackeyes (171 cm), however the place I'm buying them doesn't have any above 164cm in stock but has the blackeye Ti's at the same price with neox 412's. Unfortunately I cannot demo any of the skis.

My question is does anyone know the difference between the regular and the Ti's? and also do you think 171cm is an ok length? In your opinion would I be able to handle the Ti's?

(btw I'm 160Ib, 6'2" and prob around lvl 7 skier)

Thank you in advance for any advice,

Brad.

Brad,

I am an avid skier and just tried the blackeyes and think they are a great all mountain ski for both men and women.  They are easy to turn, yet great carvers.  I am a very small woman so have not tried the Ti's, but the blackeyes are a sweet ski!

Hey SnowQueen, thanks for your advice, much appreciated

btw what bindings did you have on the blackeyes?

Given your weight and skiing level, I think the best call would be the std version in 171. The std version is a pretty potent ski anyway and the Ti might be a bit much.

Hi SierraJim, thanks for your advice,

Any suggestions of other all-mtn skis to demo would be great, I can only demo 2 or 3 pairs though. I left a bulletin on your profile page btw... Sorry about the length!

Weigh three lbs more than you, agree with SJ more generally. A ski that some 190 lb guys here will experience as floppy at speed or lacking edge may be about right for you and I; a ski that's smooth and steady at speed may run like a 2x4 for us. Not always, obviously, but often. Also keep in mind that you can enjoy a beefier ski in a shorter length, which will have more force per sq cm on it, so flex more.

Suggest you also try the reviews on Ski Press World. They list the length reviewed and have little icons that characterize the ski as best for lighter or heavier skiers, more or less aggro etc. Usually pretty much in line with my experience. Caveat: Being crazy Canadians, and experts, they tend to test longer lengths that most of us would think about. I find in many unisex skis that are well-liked, the women's tested length (usually near middle of lengths available) is about right.

Brad....sorry about missing that BB message....I'm not used to looking there and folks are constantly having to remind me when they drop a msg there.

Within the width range of the Blackeye, I'll suggest two others that will give you a bit of a contrast to the Blackeye which is a light, high energy ski with strong grip.

The Nordica Nitrous is a bit heavier than the BE is very smooth and damp. Not quite the energy but better in shallow crud/powder etc.

The Dynastar Legend 8K is a blend between the light and nimble Atomic and the smooth and stable Nordica. One of the more versatlie skis in its width range.
