Most Drool-inducing Road Bike? - Page 9

I know- the few good riding days we had this past week I didn't get out of work in time to ride, and tomorrow I will be skiing. Can't wait- the fit seems spot on (I have ridden several hours on the trainer on it).

No excuses, young man!  On Saturday on the way to the Beav for the Talons Challenge, my buddy and I passed a guy on his bike at 6:10 AM.  It was 21 degrees out, blowing about 30 MPH, and he had a nice light.

(wish I had that kinda motivation...)

Yes, but he was nuts..

The Lynskey would be cool.  I am still saving up to put a new gruppo on my '99 Litespeed (Lynskey's old stomping ground) so I know these things can take a beating and still ride like butter.

Guess I'm nuts, then!

It's been a cold winter here in DC, and I've had precious little opportunity to ski.  So I ride, mostly on the road, even in the bitter cold.  It keeps me sane, for sure, and while it commands strange looks from motorists, walkers and hikers, it beats riding a stationary trainer!

Skiing this afternoon and evening, tho, up at Liberty or Whitetail.  Sure, they didn't get the snow that DC did, but it should be lovely.

Columbus SLX tubing

The Dura Ace 7400 kit is some of my very favorite. Simple and effective.......

That Allez is a lovely bike!  Love the old Specialized fade paint scheme, with the fluorescent swatch on the top tube.  The DA6400 kit looks to be in splendid shape, too.

Where'd you find it?

OK, not the most mind-blowing bike of all time, but I am thinking pretty seriously about ordering one if things go my way in the next few weeks...anybody have any comments about the F5 or Felt in general?

I can't tolerate the standard F5 colors, BTW...gotta be the team issue or a different bike...

I love my F4.  Its a rocket.  I believe that Felt bikes are one of the best values out there.  For the same price point, you seem to be able to get at least one step up in components over the big names.

Oooooh - Psimet wheels!  How do you like them?

This was taken @ Cirque in Leesburg, VA yesterday. Many of you might not even know who Bill Hurlow was. But you won't see seven of his wonderful bikes together anytime soon again. It was a tribute display as he recently died.

If your in the area stop down for the bike show on Sunday

It's really more of a respectful admiration for his work. So many of the later builders were strongly influenced and inspired by his work over the years. One of the UK's finest builders and there have been more than a few.

The frame builder's community has lost an esteemed member. Rest in peace, Bill Hurlow and thanks for your contribution to the art of the bicycle.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. My exact impression of Felt from reviews was that they make quality bikes that are excellent values.

Do you like your F4's ride quality on rough roads? I bought steel last time around because I didn't like the way aluminum felt on our frost-heaved NH roads, found it too jarring.

I have to say that I'm wavering on the F5 after seeing this sweet ride...

I like them....powertap rear hub and Alchemy Elf front laced to Kinlin XR-300's with cxrays.  They are stiff and lighter than my Ultegra open pros but heavier than my duraace wheelset.  The powertap has really shown me a lot about my riding habits.....mostly where I am slacking off in a workout/ride when I just use HR.  Have about 2K miles on them so far and still true and rolling great.  The price cannot beat and Rob is a pleasure to deal with.

I ride it a lot on PA country roads which are anything but smooth.  It is rough, but I don't have the aluminum experience to compare it to.  I don't find it overly jarring, but it is a performance bike that transfers the surface to you.

Hmmm. I don't see my favorite and current bike, BMC Promachine; 15.5 pounds with pedals. It is one of the quickest bikes around.

I just love it when weight becomes the topic of bike conversation.........

Yeah, I'm sure a guy like Eddy Merckx would never have obsessed about weight. I'm sure you see some drilled out Super Record on those vintage bikes.

For elite level athetes absolutely, even a 1/2% advantage can be significant. My problem is with shall I say lessor level cyclists that could perhaps loose that extra 10-15lbs. of body fat before they have ANY reason to start worrying about the difference between a 20lb. and a 16lb. bike. Maybe throw in a few hundred extra miles per week too.

As Eddy would say, "Ride lots"

And since you brought it up.....here is some Art Stump drillium magic from 1973
