I thought you had posted the one where she injuried herself...

I'm sure the team and coaches have looked into this, but...wouldn't she go just a smidgen faster without the hair streaming behind her? I don't know, maybe it ends up reducing the turbulence behind her or something.

It does look great that way...

Update:  The cut was more serious than suspected she had to have minor surgery to repair a cut tendon.  She will sit out the rest of the Worlds......I read something similar happened several years ago to Tommy Moe.

Just read on skiracing.com that she's hoping to race in the SL, which would be great. You're right, Tommy Moe cut himself on a beer glass at the Londoner Bar, in Kitzbuhel the night after the Hahnenkamm years ago{2003-4?}. Rumor has it that they switched to plastic cups for the night after the race in years following that. Can't confirm it. And, of course there's Bode. Cut himself on a Sobe bottle while falling off his skateboard. As I recall, he had multiple dozens of stitches, and some tendon damage. It lead to his picking up Sobe as his headgear sponsor {they had picked up on the news and initiated the contact}, and also was the beginning of his wearing mittens as the hand has some permanent nerve damage and is more susceptible to the cold, from what I've heard. I believe that Reusch began to make a WC mitten in the same style as their race gloves after that. They, of course had a full mitten line already, but not the look alikes to the WC gloves of the moment.

Stay away from the glass! Plastic and cans!

I thought that Reusch had started making race mittens for Bode...

Anyhow, have you tasted Champagne coming out from a (brrrr, just writing it I get shivers) Plastic bottle or, worse, a can ?!?

Yuk!!! Brr

Maybe they should start selling wine in mini casks.

I can appreciate the added warmth of mittens, but the limitations for me make it non-doable.  I wish that Reusch still made the 3 finger glove (lobster) that would be ideal, I think they only made it one year for race gloves, the Samurai.

It is pretty apparent that her judgment was clouded in the spirit of the occasion.  She should have jut hired this guy to open it for her

I think that was the problem, what I read was the she tried to open the bottle of bubbly, the cork top broke off, so then someone grabbed a Rossi and snapped the top of the bottle clean off.  She then reached for the bottle not seeing its severed head and cut her hand.......lucky it was her hand and not her mouth!!

Ugh, that sucks! I severed one tendon and half of another that way with a broken glass...luckily it was in the palm section of the tendon and not the finger section...had the injury happened in the finger instead I wouldn't have full movement like I do today. Not a good thing for a musician!

Here's hoping that she'll have full mobility. Well, at least she got gold before the injury!

Severed tendons suck, though–three months of rehab before I was allowed to put even minor weights on it. The scar's pretty bad-ass, though! (GROSS ALERT) The cut itself was only 1/2" wide (and probably just as deep), but because the tendon snaps back like a rubber band when it's severed, the surgeon had to splice open two inces on either side to grab it and sew it back together. Yum! Then as an added bonus, to keep the tendon stabilized during the first 4 weeks, a rubber band was put through  my nail and then attached to my wrist. I'm posting a pic, so look away if you're easily grossed out ;)

A rubber band through my pinky to keep the tendon stabilized. MMmmmm.

Back to Bode's mittens. My recollection is that Reusch began to make a "race" mitten, identical in look to their WC race gloves following Bode's accident and his switch to mitts. I think they were made for him. Then, having a lot of requests, they manufactured them and distibuted them in larger numbers. Prior to this they obviously had other mittens, including the leather "Nor-Am" style which was {and I guess still is} made in black leather, and was originally made in white as well.  In some years the race mitts have been pretty comfortable, in others not so much. New ones seems nice.

 Yes.. you are a dork!

As for the hair flying out of the helmet. Well, one has to make concessions.  You'd be changing a look that she's had for her whole ski life!

Probably bare midrift race suit would work though...

[hideous photo of hand deleted here]

Wow that's bad!  I cut the tendon in my thumb with a chisel and didn't go through any of that stuff.  Guess I was lucky!

She looked good for awhile today.  I saw one of her runs.  .   It came on right as I was hooking up my new plasma TV   She was in first at the point I had to leave.   I didn't know she was from Burnsville.  LOL!  Mighty Mighty Buck Hill strikes again

This article says she went down in her second run.

suck a dork? I'm laughing so hard I'm crying... She's a homie girl. I've never seen her around but the paper writes her up now and then. We see a lot of world class girls training around Park City, The U of U team has been around all weekend and it's really amazing to see them carve these graceful arcs under the lift. Any chick can show off a belly button.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Picabo and Christ Terzian (Cummings) freeskiing and yeah, it's sexy.

Inspired by the recent High School dance story I thought perhaps there should be a Lindsey Vonn Appreciation Thread, but this is already here, so guess it will do.

I love standing on an exercise ball like that at the gym. It totally freaks people out. We don't have a big pad to put it on though. So I put it near a big column and use that for balance if I start to fall. My old physical therapist wouldn't let me do it. He was certain I'd fall and split my head open.

This is a cooler trick though. I can't do this (haven't tried).

Wow!! Get that guy on "Wipeout"!  ;-)

Heed the therapist - this is much more common...

Grooving on the outfit, but time to get back to the Lindsey track...

Well, you gotta admit, for the masses ... Slalom? What the Hell is a slalom? ... and funny sounding to boot (if you don't know what it is) ... especially after being repeated over and over ... favorite Letterman schtick ... so that was the punch line. In context, it worked.

As to the play on, that Jeff Beck classic was a pretty good choice, but still think ZZ would've been even better. Should be her theme song!

Quite a girl, indeed!  ;-)
