Weird scrolling within a post

If my mouse is inside a post and I scroll the scroll wheel on my mouse, it tries to scroll the content of the post, not the page. I have to move outside the thread area with my mouse to get the scrolling to work.

mac or windows7?

Mac, Firefox, but only within the Classic skin (I've been testing back and forth, and just realized that the reason that I just noticed it was that I happened to be in Classic. I'm using the new skin most of the time).

Did you get it in a specific post?  I can't relicate the same problem on my PC (FF or IE) or my Mac (FF).

We put a fix in place (for IE6 of course) to handle some of the legacy posts with images (externally hosted images of significant width) and it might cause something like this on certain posts.  If you have any links, that'd be great.

Thanks.

Every post... but only with the Classic skin. FF 3.0.1 on Mac OS X on two different Macs.

Huh...I don't have the same issue.  Any reason you're four versions behind on FF?  It has gotten significantly better.

Sorry... the iMac (where I saw it first) is 3.0.6. I don't know why my MBP never upgrades unless I do it manually. That said, I see the issue in both...

Let me make sure I'm describing it:

  1. Set the "Classic" skin
  2. Open a thread
  3. Put your mouse inside the text of a post
  4. Use the scrolling controls (trackpad with two fingers, wheel on the mouse, or even the Home key) and it will only slightly move the text within the post, not the overall window contents

On my Mac (OS X 10.5.6):

1)  Using Firefox(3.0.6): scrolling with mouse located inside the editor, the contents inside the editor scrolls to one extent or the other and stops.  With the mouse located outside the editor and inside the browser window containing the thread, the thread scrolls and the editor window spasms/jumps quite annoyingly while it moves in the direction of scrolling briefly then returns to the center - repeatedly/continually.

2)  Using Safari (3.2.1 (5525.27.1)): scrolling with the mouse located inside the editor, the contents inside the editor scrolls to one extent and stops, then the browser window begins to scroll.  As soon as the browser window starts to scroll it begins overwriting portions of the editor window.  With the mouse located outside the editor and inside the browser window containing the thread, the thread scrolls.  The editor window position stays fixed, however the browser window randomly overwrites portions of the editor window.  Clicking in the editor window to give it focus will sometimes cause it to redraw, but usually not.  Repositioning it slightly seems to always redraw it.

Edit:  Different topic then OP, started new thread:  Scrolling when editing reply to thread

Ah, misunderstood in my last post, sorry (though that behavior needs looked into as well).

This is happening for me as well, however, not consistently.

Sometimes it does this, sometimes not?  Sometimes the behavior changes by clicking in the area of the text, sometimes not.  Move outside the thread column and the window will scroll.

Doesn't seem to be the case in Safari.

Huh...I got it to do it once on my MacBook, but now I can't get it to do it again.  I'm sure it's related to the IE6 image fix we put in.  We'll have a closer look and be sure to make sure it never happens.

Thanks for the feedback, great catch.

Whew! I'm glad you got it to do it once! I was afraid I was just wacko. Not that I'm not, mind you... only that I didn't think I was over this...!

Oh... and thanks to you I've upgraded to the FF 3.1 beta. And here I thought I was current with my FF!

This happens for me on the mac as well - two macs, both running 10.4, both running the latest version of Firefox.

it seems that you need to click on the text of a post to give that focus, then try scrolling. I noticed it with 2-finger scrolling on the trackpad of my macbook, as well as the scroll wheel on a mouse.
