display first unread post

Thread Starter

when you click on a thread, the default should be to go to the first unread post, not the beginning of the thread.

The need to click on another button to get there (or multiple buttons) is a real hassle.

I always like the button to the left of the title to take you to first unread.

Otherwise you are constantly fighting with the forum when you go to an older post you have never read, it will take you to the first post made since you marked forums read

It is now working just like it did before the move. Click the icon to the left of the title to go to the first unread. Click the title to go to the first post. Click the title of the shown (last) post to go to the last post.

Doing this seems to be taking me to the my first unread post.  Doesn't for you?

It depends on where I click from.  If I go to New Posts, and click the icon to the left, it goes to first unread.  If I click the topic name it doesn't.  If I go in my Home page, there is no icon, so I click the topic name and it goes to first unread.  If I use the floating window that's off to the right, the only way to go to first unread is to do it when you get IN the topic by clicking that button.  I'd like to see the icon to go to first unread be also available on the Home page and in the floating menu, maintaining consistency in the look and feel.

I stand corrected! I must have only done it on threads that I had completely read.

I think it should do what it did (go to the last post). What do you think?

I like that I can click on the last post displayed and it takes me to where I left off.  What about leaving that and adding a small hotlink symbol like we had before to goto last post.

I think the related content displayed to the right should do that too.  Or, (regarding the floating content to the right) it shows Title, Posts, & Last Post.  1) click on title =goto first post.  2) click on posts=goto first unread 3) click on last post=goto last post

Curious, why do you want to go past where you left off to the end, instead of picking up where you finished last time?

Cool, I see quotes now link back to the posts they originated from

That link to old posts has been there for a while... some people just delete them, I think...

I don't know why... perhaps just to read the last post because I'm interested... or see who posted it. Hadn't thought about a "why" just that it used to work that way in vB, I think.

Anyone else notice that the "Other threads" links now go to the first unread?

I guess the last unread button is a least a step in the right direction. However it  only works for threads I have been in after the platform change.  Older threads I have been in it just takes me to the first post.  I do miss the VB platform where you could configure your setup to go straight to the last post when you opened the thread instead of having to remember to do this when opening from the forum listing. Would be nice to restore the previous optionality or at least have an additional button to go to last post (I don't always want to wade through all the unread posts!).

Like others have commented I definitely spend less time here as finding a way around is still kind of clunky. I do understand  that this platform has more ultimate potential but some of that depends on the longer term Epicski strategy and positioning.  Won't help if you lose too many people along teh way because it is no longer as user-friendly.

I do alot of work in the ERP/EAM sector and I usually try to advise my clients towards the product that does offer the greater long term integration and functionality capability.  However what I see happening here reminds me very much of the counter arguments I see where the ultimate functionality is irrelevant if people can't/won't use the application and the business grinds to a halt.  I still feel here as if I have regressed from 6.0 with portals to 3.1 with a  green screen.  Just my $0.02

If you click the summary information on the right hand side of a thread listing (the first text in the last post), you'll go to the last post.
