Have you been spending less time here...

Thread Starter

since the change?  Maybe you've even been going to TGR a little more often than you used to?

I know I have.

(Yet another poll without the ability to poll.  Simply a Yea or Nae ala RR's thread will have to suffice until they get that fixed.)

Yay

Yay.

Yea

24 seconds FTW

I haven't resorted to TGR yet, but I don't spend much time here at all now. I used to use the "new posts" function to go read the "happening" convos, now it's gone, I have a look at Gathering stuff and then wander off elsewhere.

Yay.

I spend more time on Alpine Zone and FTO, but not a lot on either. I tried TGR but it's not for me.

much less

If there is a problem, I think it is with the discoverability of the "new posts" button and the fact that it takes you three clicks to get there.  I think the new posts list on the old main page was many folks gateway to Epic, so I could easily believe folks are being turned off because they either don't know about the new button or are too lazy to go click on it.  IMO, the number #1 fix for the new site should be to get the new posts list to the home page by default.  (Maybe there is already a way to customize this, but I haven't spent the time to look).

Nae.

I am actually liking he new site the more I use it.

Yay. Which is good for my productivity at work. Thank you Epic!

Actually, I'm spending more time.

It's kind of like shopping at your favorite grocery store. Every now and then they move food to different aisles so you have to spend more time shopping there.

The idea is, the more time you spend in the store, chances are you'll buy more than you actually need. Kind of why they always put all the candy, cigarettes, and trinkets by the cash register.

It's subversive marketing.

Yes,   Lists are harder to read particularly the new posts list.

Search is terrible.  It looks like it "OR" the words instead of "AND".   So, you cannot filter the search by adding more words.

The Search function is based on the open source Apache Lucerne.  You can find syntax and other features of the Search engine on that link.   It is not fully implemented yet and you should see significant changes soon.

There will be a major push of feature upgrades this afternoon or this evening that addresses user-selectable color, fonts,  and an improved subscription tracking on your home page.  We should also see the PM system improved by being able to send multiple PMs and have the "to" field have an autofill with members names.   The full list of improvements and their schedule are in this thread  EpicSki Feature Development List and the list below.

FWIW, these constant threads whining about is the new better than old and are you spending less time, are a real distraction from what this site intends to be and is contributing to the problems.  Go skiing, or write about skiing, but its really pointless to dwell on this.  I understand there may be a certain period of mourning for the old format, but this one is growing.  We are on the same side on this issue to recapture and surpass the former functionality.  What is the point of spinning off these whining threads?  Its happening as fast as possible.

Spring cleaning rationaliztion:

The inherent silver lining to all this is the discovery of new things. Sometimes, the best way to clean out the garage or house is to pull everything out and put back just the important stuff.....and find the stuff you had forgotten about and reorganize it all for generally better efficiency.

I agree with Cirque that the incessant negativity is not productive nor the best use of anyone's time.

I have spent about as much time as usual but far less constructively...to which I would say that I have wasted more time.

Whereas I usually read posts, contribute etc., since the change I spend most of my time getting directed away from the site by links, which sometimes distracts me enough that I stay away (bad policy if what you are trying to do is to get people here and keep them here).  Messing around with browser and monitor settings, changing font sizes back and forth, reading about all the site problems,  trying to work around the severe deficiencies,  using google to find ski related articles instead of the now useless Epic search function, and posting things like this instead of concentrating on ski related topics.

I know you guys are working hard to fix this stuff....but once again who's hair brained scheme was it to transfer EpicSki to a platform that is SOOOOOOOOO underdeveloped!!!???     This transaction is like the promise of a selling a 0 emissions car without the power-plant that can deliver that promise, nor the technology to be able to even begin building it!

This is how the search in the old epicski worked too.  This is not a loss of functionality, we just needed to know the syntax rules that cirquerider posted, to know for sure what works and what doesn't.

Yay.

Simply because my eyes hurts.

And frankly, if I stop whinning (pointing out those issues that bugs me), I wouldn't come here till next season. Hopefully by then, all the problem would get fixed.

Not only were we asked to bate test the software. We're now ask not to bother reporting the bugs...

I posted the details in a

Not true at all. Only asking that:

  1. You be a little patient, giving the dev team time to make the changes
  2. You realize that just because something hasn't changed right away doesn't mean that it isn't being changed or isn't in process. Many of the requests are...

I cannot see this website on my smart phone. It is the only website I cannot see on my phone. Do I visit Epicski less often while I'm at work now that I can no longer do so? Uh, yeah.

No I do not know what "build" of Opera I'm using. My phone is less that 2 months old. Worst website ever.

I'm running WinMo 6.1 with Opera on my Samsung Omnia and I'm able to view the site just fine.  I haven't tried to post anything yet though via my phone.

Yep, FINALLY found it! It's better, much better.

BUT... I would have found it a lot sooner had you put in a link in the "New Look" post!

Or, is that a feature not yet existing? (or too hard for even the "insider" to use)?

In the old forum, I've seen that done everywhere, because...it's just so easy to do!

I mean, thanks, for the good "emergency" work. But, now that I'm much more likely to visit more often, I also have a lot more time finding stuff that no longer work too... :(

I've been spending more time, but not learning about or contributing to skiing discussions.

The changes are improving things immensely.

nay

but that doesn't mean everything's ok...but getting better!

Let's face it, websites are all a lot about the whining arguing  well maybe whining, no arguing, well "discussing".  Do you view see that I'm using that new "strike through" feature on the editor?

Also, next to the smiley selector there's the line generator, it does this:

See, that's a line!

This has been a public private/public  semi-private service.....

Sweet!

(I deleted most of your post, and the part that was left got really big). That's a cool feature.

The "Classic" mode helps a lot.

Now, if we could just increase the font size a point or two, I may not go blind in '09.
