Number 1 and 2 most mentioned.....

Thread Starter

items that I have noticed in an admittedly unscientific survey of things folks miss/want fixed so far are not even on the to do list

To me thats just unacceptable.

background color/font size

and screen that doesn't fit high res monitors.

All the other widgets and gizmos can work like a champ---if I can;t sit and read comfortably---what good are they??

Oh you didn't see the thread where the Huddler people are arguing with Ssh that the way things are is what they have determined is best........unbelievable.

I was thinking the exact same thing this morning!  Thank you for starting this thread before I could.  Dan Gill... are these PROBLEMS going to be fixed, or is this just the way it is and we have to get used to a much less user-friendly forum?

Ctrl while you scroll...resize while they work things out. Piece of cake and not worth the time it took to type.

I have some hope that they have made it to the list. We'll know more later today.

Whats the term for auto-sizing, or auto-filling...A few years ago, when I was building a website, that was one of the protocols I included....so everyone saw it the same....and so 24" monitors did not have inches of nothing on each side.

and why does this site, and many others not do it?

Looks great at 1024x768....totally sucks at 1440x900.....

WHY?

There are a few posts on this spread throughout the site, but basically it has to do with a design decision of precision versus flexibility. Many modern sites use the fixed approach, some allow one section to be variable (my preference), and so on. What you're looking for, I think, is "variable width".

Since It was posted here, I'll second size of font and background as #1 problem even though I said so elsewhere.

My apologies for being quiet on the subject and not updating the development list yesterday. Many of the features requested were more than 1-day enhancements and we did not push new live code yesterday. There are major changes coming today and tomorrow for background color, PMs, subscriptions, and more.

I'm also doing another pass through Feedback and Bugs now to edit our priority list. Thanks all.

Well, that's one out of the two problems mentioned here.  (The lesser, in my opinion.)

Can we assume that your failure to address it in this thread means that Variable Width for the forums will not be coming?

JPH - Why would you 'assume' that?

Changes are happening.  I've seen at least two spots where they indicate a further project meeting tonight, to review requests and add to the list.  I've seen changes happening on a regular basis.

I think they are doing well, and responding as quickly as they can.  Sometimes priorities are addressed in 'non-priority' order.  It just depends on the talent/skills you have available at the time.

As LH Crazy (I think, forgive me if I'm wrong) said, the 'community' is why I come here.  I just learned how to change font sizes, I accept their assurances that issues as raised will be dealt with, with due respect to the value for money equation, and I'll be here for a while.

I may not post a lot, but it's the people that keep me here, not the graphics.

As far as I am concerned, KUDOS to the development and design teams.  I for one am more than willing to ride this out.  To me, there's no question it's worth it.

Edit for spelling - wasn't actually that hard to make my corrections!

Thanks, Jimmy P.

It turns out that the changes being made right now were all larger projects, and took multiple days. We made some errors in communication, however, and so one hand didn't know what the other was doing. This, with the stress we've all been facing, caused additional communication challenges for which I am entirely to blame.

I've had a pre-call with Ted and a larger group will be meeting by phone later tonight. We'll have more news for you after that call, including our estimated timing for the next push.

I love you guys!

('specially you, Dan! Thanks for being there, and for helping us get this right.)

It's going to be GREAT!

Best regards,

Bob

Good thing people are bitching about the shortcoming of the new site, because if it were up to me, I would probably adapt to the "new world" and just live with it.

If it is one the list now-----my work here is done, and not a moment too soon!

I'm getting fonder of many of the features and hope I'll eventually be able to see them clearly---otherwise.....

I can now say, unequivocally, that it is on the list.

Background color is on the list, and is now fixed.  Hooray!

Variable width?

Variable width is much lower on the list for discussion. We want to address many other things before we have that conversation. If you've changed your design to the classic one, is it helping with that, too?

For those that haven't seen it, go to your profile and click if you want the classic look:

Yep, I'm using the classic design and it is much better!  The additional color makes it much easier see, and distinguish between different posts.  The variable width thing is more about eleminating all the empty space on either side of the posts than anything else, and that is something that the classic design doesn't change.

Many things have been fixed, and many more fixes are on the way; however, the small forum inside of my big browser window is, was, and will continue to be my biggest complaint about the new site.  I mentioned it on the first day, and I mention it here again.  I hope the discussions about this (when they happen) end favorably!

Understood. Appreciate your patience. It's more than I've shown recently...
