I'm tired of all this 97% skier crap . . .

Why?

Quite simple, actually. Because I am, without a doubt, the best skier. Ever. Well, to be more accurate, I am the only skier.

The rest of you, with your fancy new boots and skis or duct tape and your ripping down chutes and magazine-cover powder shots, are literally just posers. Sure, you may say that this Irishman, formerly of Cloyne, may have taken one too many shots of whiskey as you scoffed at my pizza-sliced stance and had many a good chuckle as you watched me take fifteen solid minutes just get on my feet after a fall (Don't deny it; I've watched you time and again). All that matters not. When it gets right down to it, you are all a bunch of nobodies. So while you prattle on and on about your perfect "Epicturn" style and take polls about what is really needed at the next academy, you should just drop the pretense and ask me what I think. You and your expensive equipment are truly nothing compared to me. What I think and what I sense are all that matter.

Esse est percipi.

The Bishop.

I (and others I am sure) are obviously interested in you adding some lively discussions to this forum. By the way, what do you think?

Welcome, your Emminence . . . er, Imminence - JEEZ! Are you imminent or are you emminent? Or are you Eminem? Anyway, may you be forgiven about that "Pergatory" thing (is that where sins are "perged"?) but, HEY! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?? What this site needs is a good wedge man, and if you are who we think you are, your reputation has preceded you as the guy giving THE best wedgies on either side of the pond!

AND FURTHERMORE, you have hit the nail right on the head - 97% be DAMNED! "Tip and turn" my big fat hiney! "Tip and BURN!" . . . in H E double hockey stick!

WEDGE! WEDGE! WEDGE! WEDGE! YEAAAAA!!!

Expensive ski gear? Hardly. I got the cheapest stuff I could, simply because I can't afford more. My poles are from the thrift store. It's all good.

George,
As a fellow Irishman, who lives not far from Oxford, let me welcome you here.

Now a question for AC, apart from George, do we have any other posters on here who have been dead for 250 years?

He's been dead for 250 years?! That might explain the odor . . . unless that was maddog's fart.
. . . but as long as he's here, if he wishes to challenge the Law of Gravity, this will be an interesting place to carry on.

. . .and, your Emminence, if you stick around and chat with us, I'll considering firing my broker and hiring you on. We need a good Analyst.

Do they spell Pretence with an S in Ireland?!
Only 3 percent do.
george berkeley = SCSA? maybe 97% anyway? :

The only way you can get above 97% on Epicski is to have that number bestowed upon you by the Epicski steering committee or a suitable designee.

No, no, Pierre! It's not the "steering committee" - it's the "tipping and turning" committee.

. . . but this is definitely not SCSA, not on a bet. This guy uses words like (eyew!) "wedge".

I am perceiving there to be no substance to this "Bishop Berkeley", only a faint whiff of some hot gas.....therefore I have concluded that he may not exist.

Ahem, I know this is not thegalaxy.sunsystem.world.forums.languages.english .bepicky but my webster says:
pretense (n)
pretence
DEFINITIONS:
1 a claim made or implied; esp : one not supported by fact
2a mere ostentation : PRETENTIOUSNESS
2b a pretentious act or assertion
3 an attempt to attain a certain condition or quality
4 professed rather than real intention or purpose : PRETEXT
5 MAKE-BELIEVE FICTION
6 false show : SIMULATION

So both appear acceptable. Now, which one of you spells the word with an S and which one with the C, I know not.
What I do now, is that, do draw an S one needs to make two turns, whereas for a C one makes only one.

Matteo,
Your webmaster must be using an American dictionary, but not an English or Irish one!
(There is a possibility that back in the late 1600s, when Berkeley was writing, that his spelling of it was deemed correct.

The New Shorter Oxford English dictionary listed both spelling. I do not know whisch one is considered to be the most proper.
yeah, the Penguin dic I have on my desk didn't make any distinction either. In many words, the US spelling is with an S while anglo spelling is with a C (eg Defence/Defense).

</font>
Berkeley's Essay toward a New Theory of Vision was published in 1709. His critical pamphlet, The Analyst, was published in 1734, and between the two he had a few other published thoughts. I hadn't realized he'd published before his university years, but he may have written then.

Bishop Berkeley said that existence is perception or something to that effect. We exist because God wills us into being hence His large delusion regarding his own significance, our possible consequence and his own skiing ability. Conmvenient, don't you think? I wonder how many beers were responsible for his philosophy?

Strangely enough, people over here learn to write before they go to university. But I guess the point is this guy was writing before some nations even existed!
