First time here -- you guys seem like a serious bunch!
I've found a great price on new, leftover Legend 4800s (2007), and I'm considering buying them, after having read lots of positive reviews. But I hesitate, and I wonder if anyone could advise me.
I'm 51, started skiing at 46, when my son (he's eight) did. Somewhere I picked up a tip from Harald Harb and skied parallel almost right away. I haven't taken lessons, and it's been pretty good, although I only get on the slopes 3-5 times a season (this year we're shooting for 8!).
I'm pretty confident in most blue situations -- except when it gets steep with a deep, heavy, snowboard-plowed surface. Ice is no problem. I ski loose most of the time and don't fall; I keep my speed fairly down, but I'm getting faster. I haven't tried blacks yet, but hope to -- I'm a fairly cautious, non-hotrodder! But I'm also in good shape, have great balance, and keep my legs up.
The terrain is Eastern, NH & Vt. People have send the 4800s are ok for the east.
Here's the question. I'm 5' 6", but weigh around 160 (bone and muscle, though my insurance company thinks I must be fat: they send me "you're in denial" letters). Right now I ski beat-up ex-rental Olin Catalysts -- 150s. They're good skis, but it's time to upgrade. The 4800s are 165s, and people say they're hottish. Hm. I'm inclined to grow into them, but I wonder what people think.
