Hey Brad,

I'm interested.  Can you tell me about how many days they have on them, and what you're asking?

You can pm me with your reply....I need to post one more time to cross the threshold!

Thanks,

Mike

(Let's see if this takes care of it!)

Why are non-supporters putting gear for sale here?

The old rules said I think you had to have 10 posts or something like that, having to be a supporter is pretty new.

docbrad has been a member since 2004 with 238 posts.  axebiker in your opinion he's maybe "breaking" the new rules - but it doesn't really look like spam to me.  If he'd just joined or had only a couple of posts and did this, yes maybe.

epic is looking for more ways to encourage people to pay to be supporters, that's fine I guess, but ease off a little on this guy.

Edit:

After some communication, its obvious that this was a simple miscue.

Thanks to everyone who help us keep things on track.

Thanks to the new (and some times old) friends who take the time to communicate and set things straight.

SMJ, even the old rules required supporter status to post stuff for sale.  The reason was because some people got scammed, and there was no way to track the perps.  If someone has become a supporter, then they have left a payment/paper trail which helps establish more credibility.  So the policy is driven more by having documented credibility/tracking than by someone's participation/history on the forums.  I agree, a seasoned member is not likely to start scamming people and can probably be trusted, but the supporter requirement makes it much more watertight.

Yep...  That and if I have to pay $20 to start a thread to sell gear, why should someone who did not get to poach the thread and do it for free?  Heck...I could tag into half the threads here if that were the case.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk - I just have a strong sense of fair.  It's a pretty simple "all or nothing" situation.

Not to try to be a jerk either, but is that why you pay the $20?  I do it to support the site.

Axebiker:

Lets looks at a few SPECIFICS in this instance:

The OP started on 2/1, with first reply on 3/29.

Ten days later, I posted that I had THE EXACT SKIS the second poster was looking for

Do you think I just wait till a supporter trys to sell skis that I own, then "poach" with my "spam" to save $20 or whatever Supporter costs?

You point out, accurately, that one _could_ reply to every thread in the Gear Swap with offers to sell gear.  Do you think that is what is going on here?

As others have mentioned, Supporters status allows you to post gear, among other things.  But you are not paying for admission into "I can now post gear" club.

The second poster was, in fact, still interested.  I have no idea if the OP sold his pair or not.  I was trying to help the second poster, not undercut the first.

A polite PM to me and NONE of this would have gone down.  Whats "all or nothing" in your view is not so black and white to me as well as others.

What is black and white in this case is that you are NOT a moderator

please chill

As do I, along with the privilege of being able to post gear for sale.  I truly appreciate your sense of "nobility".  I applaud you.

Never mind.  I'm done with this.

I'll just chime in to back up docBrad's comment above...I appreciated his post and was happy to exchange several very polite pm's with him regarding his offer, which was more than appropriate in my view given the situation as he described it.

I agree with and understand the requirement about being a supporter to offer items for sale, it helps preserve the community spirit of the place among other things. Thanks are due to the moderators for pointing this out in such a civil manner.
