After a month of mostly fair weather since our major Christmas snows, the transformation has now provided us with great crust and corn topping. It's a bummer from a time of year perspective and loss of dry powder snow....but it is always fun on a bluebird day for skate skiing with the dog and kid.
With his mom's skate boots we went out for a few laps and tried for max downhill speeds. He crashed a bunch but it's good to see him get out on skate skis which has been a tough duty most days. Adding to the incentive was the planning of a ski frisbee golf course for our upcoming full moon ski golf potluck with Chimenea fire.
In the past we've used glow sticks on ski poles for pins, head lamps and glow in the dark frisbees. The rules have varied over the years and we're establishing 'course rules' and looking for ideas. Anyone?
Noteworthy was watching my son trying to throw the frisbee on skate skis and then retrieve without using poles. Width the focus on chasing the frisbee and planning the next shot, he seemed to smooth out his skating and it looked more natural than with poles and simply skating. This seems like a good and sneaky way to get kids out on skis and learn by doing on skate or nordic skis.
