PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...Bring back the advanced search

Thread Starter

I know I'm a relative newbie to Epic...(only a few years) but this site has been invaluable to me when I have a question or need some pretty specific information.

I use the advance search to narrow my returns and assure I am not going to repeating an already covered topic.

I'm afraid that without the advance search it will be too difficult to find the right answer...or  I may be re-creating the wheel

Don't misunderstand this request...I don't mind the change...although I do agree with some of the other post (harsh white...larger than life ads...post #s)

Can we create an FAQ on how to use the new site?

If someone has a solution please share it...

but first and foremost...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...bring back the advanced search...

Sort of takes the meat out of telling newbies to do a search, doesn't it ;)

EDIT: So this forum software doesn't recognize age-old smiley shortcuts like ;) ?  WTF?

That's what I was thinking.  In fact, I've given up searching all together.  I went looking for some threads I read recently about pole length and gave up after having to scan through all the pages of crap becasue you can't search by thread title only.  It sucks that we have to spend so much time talking about the features we miss from the old board vs actually talking about skiing and gear.

Seconded, I tried the new simplified search function and cannot stand the amount of useless crap I had to sift through before finding intended thread/post.

Remember the Search Forums button from 1.0 that shows Thread or shows Post? Bring that back. Check out TGR if you're not sure what I'm referring to.

Incredible as this may sound, the development list puts "number of posts" for the user as MORE IMPORTANT than improved searches!!!!!!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????

That list also takes into account the amount of time it takes to make these improvements. Search is an EXTREMELY high priority - we're frustrated as well, it also just takes longer.

We're moving as fast as we can - thanks for your help.

Suggestion about the development list (because that thread is locked :)

I think if you add a column for the level of effort to your list, it might make more sense.

I usually use a 1-5 ranking when I'm running a project

1 = So trivial my code monkey will do it

2 = Real work - requires a fresh pot of coffee before I begin to code

3 = PITA - I might actually have to write a spec for this before I code

4 = Project - requires a team (that I don't have), a budget (that I don't have) and lots of time (that you're unwilling to give me)

5 = GOD notified of opportunity to perform miracle.  Will update feature ETA when He responds.

At least you can search for short words like P4 and K2 which was my major gripe with the old search. That said... I still prefer the old search.

I'd like to add my $.02 regarding the search.  PLEASE FAST TRACK THE UPGRADES!!!  This site USED to be the best repository of ski information on the net.  With this major "upgrade" that statement is no longer true.  Google, TGR and about a zillion other sites just passed it by.  I guess the emphasis now is more on chat than info.  Too bad.

5= Hysterical!

I take it any sort of 'classic' mode, or putting back stuff we used to have in the text editor falls into that category?

Suggestion/musing - is there a way for the site to distribute some sort of "Soylent Green" that would make us happy?

"New York City in the year 2022.  Nothing runs anymore, nothing works But the people are the same and the people will do anything to get what they need...What they need most is...Solyent Green!"

Take a look:

I don't know if this will help. It appears new site has been indexed by google. You can go to google to search this site. You can also learn some google search operator to help you narrow down the result.

enter something like the following:

site:epicski.com term1 OR term2 "multiple words" +to_include -to_exclude

I too miss the advanced search.  Here's what I miss most

1)  option to return posts or threads as hits

2)  constrain results by poster's name both exact match and substring

3)  constrain by date range

4)  sort hits both newest to oldest and oldest to newest (for digging deep into the past)

Thanks for all of your hard work to launch the new site and best of luck on this shakedown cruise.
