Stowe - first time

Anyone been up to Stowe recently? Looking for report on conditions. The numbers show lots of snow falling but the base isn't getting much bigger. What's going on? Any east coast ice or have the snow dumps covered it all?

Also, is there any hope of a discounted lift ticket for President's week?

Any other tips for a first timer to Stowe would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I ski Stowe pretty much every day. I can tell you that IMHO the skiing at Stowe right now is probably as good as anywhere else in the country. You will have to really try to find ice (of course all of that can change, but the forecast still looks good too). I was up to my knees in places yesterday and the bumps were $$$$.

Discounts? Probably not.

Tips - the Quad opens at 7:30. Be there. Ski Chinclip. Ski Goat. Ski Lookout. Go to Spruce for lunch. The Octagon too. Stop at the Matterhorn on the way home. If you don't do that, get a cookie at Edelweiss.

Thanks for the quick and informative reply.

We are bringing our dog with us, but she doesn't ski. The Mountain Road Resort allows pets. Any knowledge of that place or other pet-friendly hotels?

Thanks again.

My parents stay there when they bring their dogs on a visit and they seem to like it. Since you like dogs be sure to check out Gracie's for dinner. It's just up the road from where you are staying.

Did you check out their website for the "Vacation Rewards" package? Discounts for multi-day tickets booked in advance, I think even for holiday periods.

Discounts?  Check eBay or Craig's List.  Try Pie in the Sky for good pizza.  If you are with kids (or just hungry) tour the Ben and Jerry's factory about 20 minutes south.  Stowe is great...haven't been there since they connected the two mountains with the lift.  If you get a chance drive an hour north and try Jay for a day.

Enjoy!

Okay, two weeks later and the conditions, no doubt, are much different. According to the weather report, the mountain got warm and rained on. There hasn't been snow in the weather report for days.

So, what are the current conditions? Any chance of salvaging my upcoming vacation? I start skiing on Tuesday.

Thanks.

Ina ll honesty, conditions still look really good. I can't ski right now (busted knee) but dropping off and picking up the kids, the snow looks really good. Also, there is talk of a storm in the late week. Seriously, you won't be salvaging anything, conditions look good, if I could be on the hill, I would be.
