The alarm clock woke me this morning at 4:00 AM at my house near Albany, NY. For a second I was annoyed, but then I remembered why I was getting up so early - I am going skiing today - in Colorado! On a 6:00 AM flight from Albany, I arrived in Denver at 10:30 AM. With the help of my buddy who retrieved the bags while I got the rental car, and little traffic on I-70, I was on the slopes at Loveland at 1:00 PM.
Clear road heading west out of Denver. We made it to Loveland from DIA in 75 minutes.
It was beautiful day - blue sky with temps in the mid to high 30s. The parking was full but I did not find any lift lines.
I skied about nine runs from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM with lots of rest breaks. Loveland's lifts are the perfect speed for catching your breath between runs.
Most of my runs were in the bowls off the #9 chair, which rises to 12,765 feet. The snow was mostly wind scoured but still soft. I enjoyed carving tracks on the steep runs.
Loveland is a fun mountain that I highly recommend, especially for a half day if you want to ski on your arrival day after flying into Denver.
