I was just thinking the same thing; sucks now, but we'll get used to it.

(wish I could change the background color, though...)

The only thing I really like about this new software is the picture posting and the video posting, the reviews and wiki are nice, I probably wont use them but I can see others finding it helpful.  All else seems to be a step backwards. I spent a few hours on this site last night....no sir I dont like it.

I'm finding myself agreeing with almost all the feedback people are posting. But i'd like to make a suggestion: there are actually two forums specifically for bug reports and feedback:

http://www.epicski.com/forum/list/1794

http://www.epicski.com/forum/list/1795

As the webmaster of a forum web site (about a completely different subject) that's about 1/2 the size of this one, I think i can safely say that we'll get faster responses by putting this stuff over there since those forums will be like running to-do lists for the admins and developers.

just sayin'

no like at all, for all the negs stated above, and mainly, as pointed out, there is no forum use of the rght side of the page; guess why?? they're setting up for tons of advertising. You see, when they do that, they are selling our participation as a commodity to sponsors. like being sold like that? like network tv, you are the product. makes me feel like a sucker.

Works like a huge pile of crap as well.

couln't have expressed it more sucinctly myself. it's all about selling us to the sponsors. and what about, if it's not broke, don't fix it. I smell dirty money here. sucks. really sucks. no, really.

Um TGR??  Or find some relatively empty forum and do a wholesale migration?

All this advertising. I can just see th meeting: "yeah, and skiers spend such and such, and such amounts on this and that product. " and "we can show you that they are onhere such and such hours, so many days, weekends more posts...blaH, Blah, blah" and "we have their buying practices, times they log on per week, what products they have commented on and posted regarding..."

Everywhere it says: EpicSki community. doesn't feel as much like a community when we're being so blatantly sold while just trying to talk to each other.

see all that empty spac on the right. soon to be jammed with ads. shit!

It is definitely time to know who is making the money, WHO IS MAKING THE MONEY?

And with that information, if I think it stinks, then adios, there are other places.

Davluri, I can guarantee you no one has ever made a dime on this website. Last year we made $4.67 after paying the bills. The ads that are such a bother to you cover one month's server cost. We have about 450 Supporters whose subscriptions don't cover the remainder of the server costs. EpicSki Academy contributes a lot to running the site.

No one has ever gotten paid for their work at EpicSki. Not me, not Cirque, not even Nobody.

And, strange as it sounds, every last one of us who toils on this website is here because of this community and the ties that bind us to it.

I don't like this new look at all.  It is MUCH harder for me to read.  In fact, I never had a problem reading these posts for many years and now I hardly even want to look at it because obviously the font point size is smaller, plus it seems an ineffecient use of the computer screen. yuck!  didn't anyone consider that just cause it is new and different doesn't make it better?

A lot of the new and different functionality is great, and I'm loving it.  I've been as vocal as anyone with my distaste for the lack of a lot of basic functions I rely on.

Some pointers that might help with the aesthetics.

-If you are going to view the site in its default colors, you need a biasing lamp behind your monitor.  For me this is just a cheap desk lamp with a bulb matching the color temp of my LCD sitting directly behind it and pointing into the back of the monitor.  This alone makes the bright white a lot less tiring.

-If you ctrl-scroll your font size up, it should persist for the site with current browsers.

-If you want to swap colors and fonts, you could do so on your end via a user stylesheet.  Unfortunately, the stylesheet for this site has been pretty obfuscated, so it'd take some doing to find which elements to screw with on your end.
