VK--for someone who dislikes all this so much, you sure seem to like posting a lot! I've skied with you. I know how much fun you have with it. I know why you like being here. But good skiing is adapting, learning, growing, testing new boundaries and opportunities.
So is EpicSki. As you know, over the years, we have worked, re-worked, tweaked, and pushed the limits of the old vBulletin software platform. I think EpicSki implemented it about as well it could have been implemented. But there's so much more. Rather than continue to put patches on patches, we've struck out bravely with a whole new platform that begins where VBull left off. As Nolo suggests, it's like they just dropped the rope, and opened up unlimited, but previously unreachable, terrain.
It needs exploring! It's ungroomed. There are good routes and bad routes, unknown, and unanticipated crevasses to avoid--along with hidden powder stashes as yet undiscovered. It's like we just replaced a chairlift with a helicopter and skins. It's going to take some time before we all learn to fly it to its ultimate capability. And skins are no magic carpet--they take work, technique, and sweat. But the destination is worth it!
Anyway, I appreciate all your energy and passion for EpicSki. Please help us all to learn to fly this thing. EpicSki will be better than ever, but only if those of us who believe in it contribute to positive change. It's still our community. I have concerns and issues with ES2 also, but I know that they'll get resolved--and that some of it is just the inevitable pain of getting rid of the familiar--even for the better. It's been alive less than a day, already!
Since you asked, I am, as of last spring, one member of the ownership team here. Like all the rest, I spent virtually the entire summer and fall going broke, spending money and time working on projects that will soon become part of the unique content and features of EpicSki that are--and will be--available nowhere else. Many people have invested untold hours of time, energy, and talent to make this a continuously improving site, community, resource, and environment. For years! As we embark on new adventures, we realize that not everyone will need or want all of the new features, so we're making every effort to maintain the core of EpicSki--the community and discussion forums--as unaffected as possible. And as free as ever!
So please give it a little time. Continue to make your observations and express your frustrations. Let the tech team know what you like, what you want, and what irks you. They're listening!
And look me up next time you want to ski Arapahoe Basin in the spring. The real reason we're all here...hasn't changed a bit!
