I know canting is used to correct alignment issues and heel/toe lifts are used for fore/aft balance. But it's not clear to me exactly what they are intended to accomplish or when they would be used. For example, why and when would you put shims under the inside (big toe edge) of the boot or binding? How about on the outside edge? When would you try using heel or toe lifts?
