Old Farts in Fart Bags

Anybody else noticed that older skiers tend to ski in one piece suits?

Why?
Anyone else notice that younger skiers tend to ski with pants four sizes too big and expose their butt crack for the whole mountain to see?

Why?

Who looks more silly?

I think that as a rule older people don't care as much how they look. They are more concerned with staying warm than looking good in stylish pants. It has been my experience that one piece suits are much warmer. Just my opinion though.

fart bags...LOL, around here we call "bed" the "fart sack".....

Um, because ski clothing costs so damn much and old farts know the value of a buck? Because they're not willing to give up on an item of clothing that works for the sake of current style?

They really are most reliable for capturing and holding methane, plus they hold Depends in more securely and offer an added layer of leak protection.

I LOVE seeing the old one piece suits. I remember being a kid and thinking I might get to have one when I grew up. Alas I am grown up, but no one piece suit. But what could be better than waking up, throwing that on and being ready to hit the slopes in 30 seconds flat?

Besides, it worked for Squirrel!!

I wish I'd have worn one of mine yesterday, dang it was cold at Vail. I'm guessing you'd have dumped me if I did. No wait, I drove. Nevermind.

Saw a lady in a nice flourescent green one today. Sweet.

I'll probably have my blue one at Blue Knob.

Actually I only have one and it is quite warn and easy to change in and out of before the 3 hour drive to the ski areas which I prefer not to wear ski clothes for. Just step out of my jeans and tennies in to the boots and fart bag and I'm ready to rip (pun intended) Pull my finger.

Hmm... maybe because they can't get their parents to pay for new outfits?
From the looks of it, they're coming back into fashion. I see a lot of younger folks sporting retro gear and I honestly think it's awesome.

The warmest, most comfortable outfit I have is a soft old one piece I bought used after it went our of style. I admit I'm just too vain to wear it. Maybe I'll wear it when I pull out my short skis!

Today at Keystone it was 10 degrees with maybe minus 15 windchill and it was like they had emptied out the evergreen home, all in one piece, favorite color red. Some of them looked pretty new, like helly hansen suits. Is anybody still making these? They have to be getting them from somewhere.

They're definitely still making them. If you ski Vail around Easter, 1/2 of Mexico will be there with you, and most of them are in one piece suits. They'll be wearing them regardless of age or how warm it is on the mountain.

awaiting your purchase at backcountry

One piece suits are back. Have been for awhile.

While you are rudely making fun of peoples clothing..., yesterday called and said you are still there. MYOB.

Hey, I was at Keystone yesterday and today. A little colder yesterday and windier, but plenty cold today. Since there weren't that many people on the mountain, you may have seen me in my red one piece suit. It is made by Marker and was purchased about 5 years ago in Aspen. I also have one in black. They are both extremely warm and I only have to pack the one item, along with a variety of under layers.

Today I was wearing an Icebreaker 260 sweater as a base layer with a merino wool sweater over it, and CW-X insulated tights on the bottom.

I was quite comfortable while many around me were bemoaning the temperatures.

Oh, and I doubt many skiers on the mountain today were refugees from the "evergreen farm".

I have a one peice that is more "ski friendly" than any of my jackets w/pants, of which I have several. The lil hidey pockets those suits have are amazing. One can put gloves, hats, n bibs inside w/o fear of them falling out the bottom. As far as "fart-bags" go.....well....if the chili aint half-bad and ya dont wanta smell....well keep up!!!
or get some popcorn and stay outa my way!

I was commenting along the same lines of many here, i.e. I've seen a return of the one piece suit...nothing against that. I may even look in the closet for my old one (or look for one I could fancy at a very discounted sale)
The most part I've seen on the mountain, have the extra-large look that is so in favour of the younger generations...
The fit and cut reminds me of the Air Force one piece flying suits, albeit the colour is different...

Maybe you saw me in my dark green canvas one-piece. With shiny metal zippers. It was made by Key (el-cheapo version of Carhartt) and was purchased at a farm and ranch supply store in Fort Collins, Colorado.

It is also useful for installing tire chains on the truck (Cars?!? We don't need no stinkin' cars!!), running the snow blower, digging up the septic tank, and general outdoor work in cold weather.

It is warm and conceals any evidence that I might have a waist. The pockets are useful for holding screwdrivers, wrenches and snotrags.

So there, all you fancy Bogner heli-ski snobs!

i got one and love it and i'm not looking to impress anyone with what i have on, your play on the court or ski on the hill is all that matters. i tried the pants, its like wearing a windbreaker.

IMO, some of the new boarder gear patterns are a lot like the seniors on the golf course. i'm dated, but i would laugh at me if i walked by; i've laughed at many "in style" gear on the hill.
