High Society FR 187

So I picked up a pair of these on Tramdock last night...($260)...they were quite cheap. I'm looking for a replacement for my Gots that's a bit longer and stiffer...I'm wondering if these will fit the bill? I've read some stuff here on the site but can't totally get a feel for whether people really like these or not. I may still return them and just be out the shipping costs...but at that price...I couldn't resist.

Please advise if you have any thoughts.

Thx

Don't know anything about your other skis but I have the FRs in 179 and love them. They are great all around skis and are teh ones I sue for everything. They are a little slow in bumps which is to be expected with their width and seem to chatter a little at high speeds on groomers although that could just be my inability to use the whole ski. I ski mostly the upper bowls at breck and they are absouletly perfect for me in the conditions I encounter up there. They seem to have no problem in the crud and perform fairly well in powder although I haven't been able to try them in anything super deep.

Thx, lonewolf...good feedback. I'm thinking for $250 its probably worth the chance that they'll be a pretty good fit for skiing all over: POW, crud and groomers.

I'll report back on how I like them.

Every time I see those on tramdock I think: either these are great skis and are worth more but do not sell because they are a small brand, or they are junk that someone tried to pass off as boutique.

That's exactly my worry aschick. Either I just go suckered or I got a great deal. I can still return them. My research here and on TGR yields pretty positive feedback. So I put this to the group...do I keep em or send em back?

The more important question is: if you send them back, what do you replace them with and for how much?  ;)

That said, I picked up a pair of FR 179s from Tramdock and will have them mounted next week on Look PX12 Jibs.  I'm thinking about picking up some Ninthward Nick Greeners,  THA 187s, or FR 187s for powder days.

Good pt. Arthrogian.  I agree..the opportunity cost could be quite high.  Tell me more about the Ninthward skis...they keep getting more play and I know almost nothing about them.

From what I understand they're another boutique brand, similar to High Society, but they have a few more models.  There's some controversy regarding the company's marketing strategies, but I hear they make stiff skis that rip in most conditions.

It seems like a crapshoot between the High Society 187 FRs and the Ninthward THA 187s.  They're the same length, and have almost the same sidecut.  My 179 FRs are super stiff, so I'm not sure if the Ninthward models are stiffer.  On Tramdock, I think the FRs are $272 and I've seen the THA 187s for $350ish.    If the High Society FRs come back up, I'll probably get a pair of the 187s.

Spyderjon owns both sizes in the FR, which are in his pic below.  The 187s are substantially larger.
