What are the recommended locks that:
a. pack away in a pocket (because we're not all rad backcountry hounds with 7 day packs....
) while skiing
b. take more than a glance to pick or cut the wire/cable
c. can be unlocked by the owner of ski lock
The slew of posts (especially on TGR) on ski thefts has me walking my skis back to the car nearly every time I stop.
When I look for ski locks, the only hits I've seen are to some pretty chintzy looking locks. Granted, the requirements of a pocketable and theft deterring lock are opposing but there's got to be a decent solution that doesn't cost as much as my skis. I like the idea of splitting skis....but with some skis, they stick out like a sore thumb (especially the smaller independent makers) in the rack so are easy to pick the pair. And not all of us go to the hill with a buddy to split skis up with and lock them.
If we didn't have to worry about lawsuits or being charged with vigilante crime, I'd say set up a few stings and knock a few teeth out of the d-----bag thieves ('course, that is a really easy thing to say knowing I'd never have to do
). Then the whole ski lock thing would be moot.
