In March of ‘12, DSJ got a call from Tom Tanner, manager at Ski Pro Mesa/Tempe, AZ asking whether myself and my wife Karen would like to be part of a promo trip to Red Mountain Resort, BC. After...
My biggest caution: I don't know how on earth they are measuring these things. A 183 barely measures 180. I would have purchased a longer pair online had I known this.
But this is the only...
I got these (184's) on the cheap from an experienced 6ft plus 190 lb. plus powderhound in his late 40's who was looking for a one ski quiver and this was not his ski. I think it might have been...
For dependable snow coverage, you can't beat Snow Summit. Summit is actually half of Big Bear Mountain Resorts so the pass includes Bear Mountain which makes the resort larger than it appears at...
THE
SILVERTON MOUNTAIN
EXPERIENCE
Where is this place? We must be getting close. Eyes anxiously scan the steep canyon walls for any sign of a ski lift. It’s...
I keep mine pretty low so that I can still talk to friends on the lift. I don't think I can get it cranked up enough to hear in the way down though. Usually its nothing but the sound of steel edges on ice and wind.
I might be listening to just about any type of music. On my shuffle I have:
Digital Underground
Refused
Bob Marley
Skindread
Slipknot
Pearl Jam
The Gourds
Billy Joel
Men at Work
Men without Hats
The Bengles
Harry Bellafonte
Matisyahu
Adamski
50 Cent
Lacuna Coil
Geto Boys
Prong
Johnny Cash
On my classic I have about 5500 songs so it would be a very very very long list.
Swap out Sex Pistols for Dead Kennedys and that looks like one of my play lists.
I listen to some of everythying, cept Half Japanese or Hank Jr. Those guys are terrible!
Manilow
Bread
America
Roger Whittaker
Babs
Carpenters
Clancy Brothers
Polka Classics
College fight songs
You know - all the $H!TE Dad tortured us with on road trips in the 70s
(Yeah - I am working out some issues.)
Sugar Mountain blasts Lite FM out of the speakers at the base lodge. That's the thing I hate about that place even more than the crowds you can get there on a Saturday. I guess it's ironic that they probably play Sugar Mountain on that station occasionally.

Hey man, I don't listen to an ipod while skiing, but if I did it would be this playlist. With your taste you should check out these bad boys. I bet you would really dig all of em. It's a little more off beat than what your used to, but a couple of your songs tipped me towards these (Bob Marley, Geto Boys (for those of you who don't know this is the sweet group that helped make office space a classic), and Matisyahu).

I've got a few of those. That whole Sneaker Pimps album is pretty good. I will have to get on iTunes and check out some of the others.
Funny you mention Lupe Fiasco. I just heard that song a couple of days ago on Sirius Faction and thought it was something worth adding to the collection.

I found that gem, and a couple of the others on Pandora radio. Pandora is wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. I wish I had a Pandora player instead of an ipod.

Man, I just got a DVD of Kansas' Topeka, Kansas anniversary concert.
highly recommended.
As far as your hip hop tendencies, I highly recommend at least checking out what I posted above. Especially with such a drive. You've got nothin to lose.
I've got a whole bunch of indie rock on my iPod (Avalanches, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Yo La Tengo, New Pornographers, The Raveonettes, Magic Numbers, XX) which goes on shuffle and I mostly ignore when I'm skiing.
However, I've also got a couple of Reggae albums (Bob Marley & Toots and the Maytals) ... Something about that Reggae rhythm sucks me right in ... when Funky Kingston comes up in rotation it puts a smile on my face and I find myself swinging my turns to the beat.
new years day at Loveland my grandson and I were sharing a lift with some guy who appeared to be in a another world.
about half way up the mountain I asked my grandson (sitting in the middle) If he was staying warm.
The guy woke up blurted out "Pardon me I have an I pod" as if he thought I was starting
a conversation with him.
he then slipped back into his self induced coma.
I wonder do some people do this to avoid socializing with strangers ?
Not sure if he even heard my grandson tell me "WHAT A MORON"

weird normally I take my ear phone out when I am people are talking to me that guy sucks!
Well at least he went doing what he loved best. His friend Chaos was said to have exclaimed, "He mighta' stood a chance, he might have heard that groomer coming if he didn't have that Ipod in his ear, but he loved his music and I guess that's the way he wanted it".. His friend Jer was overheard to remark, "Dude those groomers reallly chew you up, like he was like burger", but I guess he wanted it it that way?"
Just about anything by Alestorm. Never really liked metal myself, but now cannot imagine not having at least an album's worth scattered in my ski list.
