silence

i think the people who listen to music while skiing are so lame.

to me the silence is music to my ears . and on top of that its just so unsafe. how would someone get your attention?

Is it possible to have a "what music while skiing" thread without a "wahh people shouldn't have music while skiing, whine whine, bitch moan bitch, wahh" post? I hope it is. If you don't do music, don't post in it, to each their own. Thats like saying "you should be on skis" in a thread about what snowboards people are riding. Do agree on the "search" bit though, this has been rehashed about 1,234,587,200,783.47 times, but it usually turns into what I mention above.

For me:

Non-Powder Day: Pennywise, Bad Religion, Thrice, Snapcase (especially when Uber cold out), NOFX, Saves the Day, With Honor, From Autumn to Ashes, Alkaline Trio, Lagwagon and so on. Fast, melodic stuff to get me amped.

Powder Day: Above plus some slower stuff with more groove, David Bowie, Gym Class Heroes, Wish/Disintegration era Cure

PS Ipods are overpriced/over marketed. Wouldn't use one unless it's free, but I won't go as far as to say they suck. Got a Sansa, works with most any software, can use it with my Linux machine, 4 gigs under $100 (a year ago, cheaper now), expandable memory and I don't look like 15 year old girl who has no clue about anything when I listen to it.

Nothing but the sweet music of skis on snow.

No wonder so many people are running into each other these days.

Electronic...digital...music.

Enough said...

I like to actually record my own sets and listen to them while I am skiing. Really energy packed sets that make you feel like giving 110%.

I myself have a Sansa that has held up through countless trips to Cedar Point and its rollercoasters, out boating, skiing, and anything else. They are really cheap, get some awesome battery life, and you can get a 4gb model for under $20 now with expandable SD card slot.

I have to say that instead of jumping on to the whole Iphone craze, buy an Ipod Touch. You get the applications and wireless functionality. Iphone 30/mnth data plan is a rip off. Apple's are over priced, and Itunes does suck, and you can get around the Itunes problem. But they do make some rather appealing products.

Itouch is the only Apple product I have ever considered owning, well except for some of the ridiculous Mac Pro set ups and an Avid system back in the day when it was strictly for Mac (both of those are waaaay out of my price range). Touches really are one sweet device.

You won't lose everything if you understand how it works. iphone is backed up every time you use itune. Besides, it is a network device. I have both exchange and mobileme so the information is stored on the server that i can access from any computer that is connected to internet. I can easily sync my old E61 to get the information back when both phones break.

To me, touch is like skiing only the green trails while iphone is skiing the whole mountain.

Damn your hooked up..

(yet another "what music do you listen to" thread completely and utterly derailed/hijacked. If anyone can successfully start a "what music" thread that stays completely on topic, I'll um well I'll come up with something if that ever happens, it won't. Pitchers upon pitchers or something along those lines)

Well Hellside i was not aware that itunes saves everything i thought it just saved my songs,movies,books,ect....

Thank you for that info i guess i should go the thoes iphone classes that give at the apple store..

As for the music in the iphone its pretty good texas country music from townes van zandt to CCR,jason boland,a bunch of stuff i think is cool

I listen to classic rock and classical guitar music. I also use the time to catch up on podcast (I like NPR).

jocotxguy, you should always sync your phone with your email program on your pc. you will always have backup and can sync with other phones if needed. PC is also easier to enter new data. If you have mac, then everything is built in.

Sometimes stranger on the chair lift feel being tricked when I need to remove headphone in the middle of a conversation in order to hear what he/she is saying. This is the only downside I found.

Love me some up-tempo rock mixed with techno/electro elements. Good for the stoke! And of course, the best part about helmets with earphones is the ability to turn down the music and listen to the swish of snow and air on the mountain

There are days i dont turn it on but i would say 1/2 and 1/2 is a good estimate.I play it loud so i dont have to deal with the gapers i have to deal with on a daily basis. As with driving my biggest concern is who or whats in front of me no what behind me so the ipod is not a distraction but adds to my days of skiing.

To say listening to music is "lame" is a bit over the top. To each of their own.

But let's face it, some of us like the sound (or lack) of skis on snow!

Others, the sound of rushing wind in our ears.

That's MUSIC to me. No iPod needed.
i leave mine so quiet i can barely hear it when i'm skiing.

i can hear it in the background on the chair, but can still talk with people (ie annoy them).

i tend to always cue up the alpha blondy song from blizzard of ahhh's (the telluride scene) for my last run...

damn was today good.

Swap out Sex Pistols for Dead Kennedys and that looks like one of my play lists.

I am not against that at all. I only go music maybe 30% of the time. I was just saying it would be nice to have a post about music with skiing without all of the "music while skiing is bad" posts that always pop up. Again to each their own.

I like your twist on what your "music" is.

OP title doesn't stipulate it has to be when actually skiing. I prefer no tunes on the mountian.. but...I listen to tunes on the 3+ hour drive on the way up and back. Don't you?

Nice nice list. Social D is great for skiing, Story of my Life+Trees+Fresh Pow=heaven

Can't seem to ski to The Clash, hands down my favorite band, but on the hill very few of their songs do what I need. Something about snow and getting lost in a supermarket that just doesn't fit.
