Tahoe Bears....Who Gettin sum

Looks like tahoe is gonna be firing once again. The BC should be looking ok by friday and the resorts should be good again sunday and monday.

If this year is like last year and we dont get any march or april storms, we are gonna be in trouble

Bit of a warm storm, but it's definitely better than nothing, and I'm happy with it, it will help cover all the rocks that got exposed by the melt. Then we will be clear for mass dumpage.

I agree, better than nothing. There has been a bit of a drought the past 3 weeks and I'm looking forward to this new snow.

It has been raining for a while in Yuba, that should pass on to Tahoe soon, good or bad though, we'll see.

You want a warm/wet storm to bond to the existing schwag.

You would quite hate it coming in blower.

given the hard layer of old snow, this is right on: come in warm, cool down gradually. Yesterday everything warmed and softened at the surface. what effect would that have had on the layering?

This storm actually is looking to be the perfect recipe. Getting colder every day through Monday.

this is a noobie question..but what does it mean when someone says a ski is damp? i always thought it meant smooth..but i see posts that say a ski is smooth and damp? could someone explain?
i thought damp meant that the ski won't send harsh vibrations up your body when it encounters variable snow/terrain.

in other words good for blasting thru crud...

agree basically. also, means that the ski does not re-act to the variables in the crud, it does not multiply and compound the disturbance and turbulence, but tones it down, neutralizes vibration and chatter and flappage.

This (damp ski) not only produces a reduction in body punishment, but generates a smooth and strong tracking tool for crud.

Then it f'ing slays it.

We were out at the heave yesterday. Best day of the season by far.

Sunday was a good day finally.
We are looking at another week of dry weather now. Skiing is good, but we are very very short of normal. The concern now is for summer water.

It was pretty good at Alpine on Sunday. Especially late in the day in the harder to reach places on the mtn. Hikes were closed, but with some traversing yielded some untracked deep snow until closing.

BTW: Coverage is looking pretty thin again after the warm spell.

i got some over the weekend and finally busted my self out of a crappy season funk.

saturday was an uber late start to the day. i didn't leave San Fran until a hungover buddy of mine called me to say that he was still drunk and hadn't made it to the mountains. since i had pre-packed, i located the truck, parked it in the driveway (can't pre-load since i don't have a garage and fools will jack your shizzle any chance they get...my sleeping back got stolen on Election Day!), loaded it up and was on the road by 8am. Made it to Heavenly and was slopeside and schussing by noon. crazy weather was to be had on the drive up. overcast until El Dorado/Placerville, then 0 viz fog. hitting the grade outside of PVille it yielded to rain, then slush, then more rain, wet snow (at 6K) and finally blue birding over SLT at Echo Summit. it was BB in the tram parking lot with snow melting everywhere. i loaded up on screen and then hit the tram only to be met with overcast fog at the top of the Cali side. snow was chalky and quick and since i was so late to my game, i just did laps off of Canyon Express until near closing.

sunday i rode at Sugarbowl (i've become accustomed to getting there early and riding hard until 12:30, then turning in my ticket for a $12 discount). due to having left my windshield wipers down on my window, they were stuck under snow and ice and broke when i attempted to remove them (can't use water to loosen them up on account of the large windshield wide crack in my window...). anyway, after repairing the wipers and getting the cabin winterized, i was on the slopes around 9:45. pretty much everything was tracked out by then, but i managed a good 2.5 hours of skiing what i call 50/50 (one turn would be tracked out, the next turn would be untouched fresh) runs. mostly did laps off of Disney since CN wasn't running. was back on the road by 12:30 with plenty of leg burn (this was the first time this season that i was actually off-piste due to our limited snow coverage).

all in all, solid weekend and mucho appreciato that my drunk buddy decided to wake my lazy hiney up on Saturday, otherwise i probably would have stayed in bed.

so, long story short, I GOT SOME.

PS:

what the frick was up with the two posts about damp skis? that was some seriously non-sequitorialness...(i even went back and re-read the thread and all the previous posts and i didn't see anybody mention anything about damp skis)

weather channel says 100% chance of snow and the storm is lining up to hammer Tahoe like a crooked nail into wood !

If I were there; I'd already be at the lift, but since i'm not; i'll be here: http://video.dot.ca.gov/ and working very little.
