Is a 90 flex boot to soft for 2006 Volkl Superspeed

I have Nordica GTS8 Boots. Flex rating 80 - 90. Will they be too soft for a 2006 Volkl Superspeed at 175cm I weigh 220 lbs. What should I be wary of?

Thanks

I would say that IN GENERAL, a 80flex is too soft for a 220 person, regardless of the ski.

overall, yes,

maybe OK for you.

can you demo the ski first and see if you like it with your boots?

Would agree with Mntlion, this sounds like a poor match up to me.

That is one soft boot for a guy your size and a ski which is on the stiffer side which means you will have a difficult time transferring sufficient leverage to the tip or tail of that ski to adjust turning radius as well as difficulty maintaining your fore/aft balance.

The GTS-8 is a higher volume boot that is generally targeted for an intermediate skier. The Volkl Superspeed is a stiff, heavy all mountain carver that is best suited for a skilled pilot.

If the boot is right for you, then probably the ski is wrong.

If the ski is right for you, then probably the boot is wrong.

What boot shell should I be looking at?

you should be looking for a good boot fitter and let them help you with a good boot shell.

as said that is a big volume, medium flexing boot. listen to Jim.

I will get around to it. Just thought I would ask a question. Closest recognized bootfitter is 3 hours away and I have to make an appointment.

that is the way to do it, 3 hours is a short distance to travel for comfort and performance

IMpossible to answer your question here. We know nothing about your foot shape, size, problems, etc. If with that info it is very difficult to recommend boot brands and models in this forum. It is much better for us to observe in person. Recommendation to work with a fitter is a good one.

Just as a completely anecdotal but interesting data point - I've seen two big guys (>200lb) tear their achilles tendons in boots that were very soft and ended up collapsing/buckling forward.
