Just bought a pair of K2 Apache Hawk Skis

Hi,

I went out and bought a pair of K2 Apache Skis today. I bought the skis mainly based on the price, $200. I don't understand much about buying skis, the skis I've been using for the past 3 years were bought of a friend. This is my fourth year skiing, I go skiing 8 times a year with my friends who are really good skiers. So I consider myself to be at an advanced (intermediate-expert) skiing level.

After doing some research i found out that the skis i bought are mainly for beginners-intermediate. I don't know if i should return these skis and go for something for something meant for a greater ability level. Could I get some advice please? Is there a big difference from these skis and advanced level skis?

We also do a lot of glades (skiing in the woods), are these skis a bad choice for that?

Here's a link to the skis: http://www.evogear.com/skis/k2-apach...ings-2008.aspx

Thank you in advance!!

With the info that you have given there are a few better option out there for you. The Hawk is a great ski for someone that is looking to just "cruise" on trail. It is not something that I would recommend for anyone that skis off trail at all or that is a higher ability level the intermediate. In short there is nothing wrong with the Hawk but for your ability level and terrain preference it is probably not the best tool for you.

What you should be looking for is something in the mid 80mm's to low 90mm's underfoot. What I would recommend for you to check out would be the Watea series by Fischer. They are an awesome choice for somebody that is looking to start getting off trail more. Fortunately because of the construction of these skis they are light, energetic and above all a blast to ski.

Cheers,
