I'll echo Paprika - Whistler has been VERY quiet this year. We've been going up for the last few weekends and even with numerous sections of Whistler and Blackcomb closed due to avalanche risk there still aren't the lift lines and crowd crushes that are usually up there.
Cypress is a little full of itself right now w/ the whole 2010 thing going on and is overpriced. Grouse tends to be packed and has very limited terrain...Seymour is....Seymour....small, local, more laid back, but quiet small.
I agree - if you're here to see Vancouver check out the local mountains for some night skiing, if you're going skiing I'd pony up the extra bit and head for Whistler. There are a whack of deals that they keep emailing me to entice me to stay up there
If you're in Vancouver I would probably rent a car for a family of four. It's almost $4/person to take local transit and that ticket will only last 2.5 hrs, so $8/person just to and from the mountain, never mind any other travel that you'll do throughout the day...Hotwire.com has rental cars for less than $20/day for those dates - I'd say it's worth it just to have your own transportation and not have to drag equipment around with you on public transit.
If you're looking for local rentals in North Vancouver - The Destination (www.thedestination.ca/
) is a nice local shop that has a pretty decent variety of rentals - better than the local mountains themselves...In Whistler I'd recommend Affinity Rentals...reasonably priced and lots of variety.
hope you guys have fun up here!
